FBC Carthge e-News for the Week of August 4, 2008

FBC Carthage
e-News for August 4, 2008

Good Morning!

Yesterday was a great blessing to me as I trust it was to you. Observing the Lord’s Supper is always special as we remember the Lord Jesus Christ and His great gift of salvation. The bread and the cup remind us that our freedom in Christ is not free. It cost the death of the God and Creator of this universe to pay the price for your sins and mine. Oh, what a Savior!

A special thanks to Cindy Dowell for the beautiful harp music before and during the service.

Last night we examined the purpose for the Sunday evening service and laid out my vision for the months to come. I see Sunday nights as being a strategic time of discipleship, growth, and training in our walk as a believer in Jesus Christ. This next week we will begin a series on Sunday nights at 5:30 PM entitled “What Every Member of FBC Carthage Needs to Know.” This will form the foundation on which we will build the work and ministry of the church. The first message will be “What’s Our Purpose?” We will examine our reason for existing as a church and the three main parts of our mission.

On a couple of personal notes, Fran leaves Tuesday to fly to California for her work. She will then fly to El Paso, Texas to pick up our daughter, Jill. They will then drive back to Carthage. It will be great to have Jill home and for you to get to meet her for a few weeks before she starts another year of college at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.

The house project is progressing this week with kitchen cabinets and appliances being installed. We are just about finished with the first room project and we say, “Hallelujah!” We should have a kitchen table set up soon where we can actually eat inside.

Sara started classes at Smith County High School this week. Pray for her as she meets new friends and gets into the routine of a new school year. Go Owls!

Have a blessed week and continue to let your light shine.

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for this week at FBC Carthage:
1. Thank you to all those who worked in the Smith County Fair booth. We had a great week of serving and meeting the community. The water, fans, face paint, and balloon animals were a great success. A special thanks to Rita Shiverdecker and the ladies of the WOM (Women on Mission) for coordinating the work. I have already signed us up for a booth in next year’s fair.

2. Last week we had the privilege of feeding lunch to over 100 teachers from the Smith County Schools. Thank you to everyone who helped in this outreach. Remember to pray for the teachers as they teach our children.

3. This Thursday, August 7 is Election Day and I encourage everyone to exercise your responsibility and privilege as a citizen of the United States and vote. Every election is important and every vote counts.

4. Awanas, for children ages 3-6th grade, begin Sunday, August 10 with a kick-off event at 5:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Bring your children and invite family, friends and neighbors to attend with you. Parents, check out the excitement of Awanas at
www.awana.org. Awana leaders are reminded of the training this Saturday, August 9 at 10 AM in the Fellowship Hall. Also, remember that a very important series begins this Sunday, August 10 at 5:30 PM in the Sanctuary during the Evening Worship Services for youth and adults.
