e-News for FBC Carthage
August 11, 2008
Great Morning to you!
You say “Bro. Tim, what makes it a great morning?” It’s a great morning because my wife, Fran and oldest daughter, Jill are back home from New Mexico. Fran flew last week to pick up Jill from a summer internship in Las Cruses, New Mexico. They started driving back on Saturday and arrived late Sunday night. Needless to say, they are wore out today. Thank you for your prayers for them as they traveled and for Jill as she was away for the summer. She will be in Carthage for about three weeks and then start back at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.
This past weekend was great as well. We helped in the Hispanic Soccer Tournament cooking hot dogs, setting tents, and hauling trash. It was great. There were eleven teams from across middle Tennessee and well over 300 people including children. Pastor Jorge who leads the Hispanic work at FBC Carthage on Friday nights shared the gospel several times throughout the day and at least one person that he knows of prayed to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior! Continue to pray for the work with Hispanics in this area. Pastor Jorge told me that in Wilson County where he does most of his work there are over 10,000 Hispanic people.
Awanas began last night with over 40 children. This is going to be one of the greatest ministries of our church as we disciple children and teach them the scriptures. For more information on Awanas, how you can enroll your child age 3-6th grade, or how you can help in the ministry contact John and Rhonda Etheridge or call the church office at 615 735-1929. For general information go to www.awana.com.
The Sunday evening service was great last night with around fifty in attendance. We answered the question “What is the purpose of FBC Carthage?” Check the web site www.fbccarthage.com or my blog www.ontheword.blogspot.com later this week for the audio of the service. Make FBC Carthage your Sunday night place-to-be. Counting Awanas and those in evening service we had almost 120 people at FBC Carthage last night!
This is already a great week! Be blessed and remember that you are an ambassador for the Lord Jesus Christ everywhere you go. Represent Him well.
Your Pastor,
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. All deacons are reminded of the Deacon Rally tonight at FBC Gordonsville at 6:30PM. We will leave from FBC Carthage at 6:00 PM if you want to ride with the group. We will have supper at the rally.
2. We are still collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items for the Help Center. We will visit the center this Wednesday night at 7:30 PM after the Bible Study and Prayer Time. You can bring items by the church office or better yet, bring them with you on Wednesday night.
3. All Sunday School Teachers are reminded and urged to attend the annual training event next Monday, August 18 at the First Baptist Church in Cookeville. We will have a light supper for you at 5:00 PM at FBC Carthage and then leave for Cookeville at 5:30 PM. Plan to attend this time of information, inspiration, and motivation for the coming Sunday School year. As I said last night in the evening service, Sunday School is the key organization at FBC Carthage for establishing connections with people. I can not emphasize strongly enough how important Sunday School is to all the Lord is doing and will do through FBC Carthage. Teachers, this training will be a blessing to you and your class members. Attend.
4. Next Sunday, August 17 we will join with area churches for a Ministerial Alliance Community Cookout and service at the Ag Pavilion at Crump Paris Park. It is free and open to the community. The FBC Carthage Quintet will be singing and representing our church (ambassadors). This will be a great evening of fellowship and worship together with Christians from many different churches in the area. I believe it pleases the Lord when His children join together. Here is a copy of the flyer for the event:

5. This Sunday, August 17 will be our opportunity to lead the worship service at the Defeated Campground. We will gather there around 8:00AM at the pavilion near the campground entrance and the service will begin at 8:30 AM. We will be finished by 9:00 AM to give time to get back for Sunday School. Everyone is invited to attend this ministry to the campers.
6. A need has arisen that you can help with. Several girls have been coming on their own to church without their parents. This is fine, however, while they are here they need someone to sit with in services and to see about their needs. If you would be willing to “adopt” one or two of these girls while they are here call me, Tim Frank at 735-1929. This may also be a chance to form a connection to their parents and share Jesus with them.
7. 5th Quarters are coming! A week from Friday, August 22 will be our first 5th Quarter in the Family Life Center after the Smith County Football Game. All students in 7-12 grades are invited to attend. Kent Shingleton, Youth Specialist with the Tennessee Baptist Convention will be our special guest speaker. Invite the youth of the community to attend the FBC Carthage 5th Quarters.
