FBC Carthage E-News

November 16, 2021

Good Tuesday Morning,

Today begins the 2021 Tennessee Baptist Convention Annual Meeting called “The Summit.”  This special gathering of messengers from Baptist churches across Tennessee is always filled with inspiration and encouragement as we celebrate the great things the Lord has done in our state.  The Summit is held at Brentwood Baptist Church but you can watch the meetings streamed live today and tomorrow, or recorded in the days to come.  The schedule, information, and streaming links are found by clicking: https://www.tnbaptist.org/summit2021/

Operation Christmas Child Collection Week is this week, November 16-22.  The CLC will be open this week from 1-3 PM Tuesday and Wednesday and from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM Thursday thru Saturday.  You can also bring your completed shoebox on Sunday.  Boxes are still available in the Connection Point if you would like to stop by the church this week.  This world-wide mission effort shares the love of Jesus to the children of the world in a real and personal way.   Be a part of touching a child’s life for eternity.

The Church-Wide Thanksgiving Dinner will be this Sunday, November 21 at 5:30 PM in the Christian Life Center.  This meal will be covered dish with everyone bringing salads, vegetables, and especially desserts to go along with turkey and dressing.

A fun event for our church is the Carthage Christmas Parade on Sunday, November 28 at 4:30 PM.  We will host hot chocolate and coffee for the community and have our annual “Singing on the Steps.”  Everyone is asked to join us on the church steps as we sing Christmas carols to the community.  We will finish before the parade gets to the church in order to join in the festivities.

Just a Reminder:  There are many opportunities in the coming weeks to express your thankful generosity to others in need:

Coats are being collected through Sunday, November 28 for the annual “Coats for the City” distribution on December 3-5 in New York City.  We will be working with the Bridge Community Church.  You can drop your coats off at the Connection Point behind the Sanctuary.  If you are interested in helping with the cost of the trip, designate your envelope for NYC Coats for the City.

Lighthouse Camp Christmas Parties will be December 4 and 11 at Lighthouse Christian Camp in Smithville.  All types of items are being collected for the children to select and give to their families for Christmas.

Thanksgiving Boxes – Money will be collected this Sunday, November 21 through the Sunday School classes for food boxes to distribute on Wednesday, November 24 to families in Smith County.  If you know of a family who would be blessed by a food box, contact the church office at (615) 735-1929.  To help distribute the food boxes, meet in the Christian Life Center on Wednesday, November 24 at 9:00 AM.

Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions is our yearly missions offering for the Southern Baptist Missionaries around the world.  This is our largest special offering for the year and reflects the great importance of our missionary efforts.  This year’s goal is $19,000.  Everyone is asked to give a generous offering for world missions and then the church will give the entire offering on Christmas Sunday, December 19.

The daily Bible reading booklets for November are available in the Connection Point and front foyer.  You can also find them online and as a daily e-mail to your Inbox at:  https://www.crosswalk.com/devotionals/biblepathways/

The RightNow Media video series of the week is “Person of Interest.”  Investigate the Man Who Changed the Course of Human History.  In Person of Interest Video Study, Police Detective J. Warner Wallace employs a unique investigative strategy to confirm the historicity and deity of Jesus, showing why Jesus is unlike any other person who has ever lived.  The Person of Interest Video Study will invite viewers into the life of a cold-case detective as he uncovers the truth about Jesus, using the same approach he also employs to solve a real murder case.  The lessons will teach viewers how to become good detectives, using an innovative and unique "fuse and fallout" investigative strategy they can also use to examine other claims of history.  It will also help viewers explore common objections to Christianity.  Concrete and compelling in its approach, the Person of Interest Video Study will strengthen the faith of believers and engage those curious about Jesus with evidence for his one-of-a-kind, world-altering significance.
