FBC Carthage E-News
August 26, 2019
Good morning,
This is the week our
college and university students begin a new semester of classes. Pray for their studies, their friendships,
and their witness on the college campuses. Pray for the Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM)
on the campuses and their vital ministry in the lives of the students. I am thankful for the influence the BSU then,
BCM now, had in my life as a student. My
adult life was shaped more by the BSU than any other influence during those
college years.
Excitement is building as
we anticipate our trip to the Holy Land, September 15-24. We have 12 from Smith County and 43 total in
our group. This will be my and Fran’s
first opportunity to travel to Israel and walk in the footsteps of Jesus. Please pray for the entire team as we travel
and experience the sights and the places described in the Bible. May this be a moving, spiritual pilgrimage in
each and every life.
Sunday nights we are
continuing our series on Psalm 23 as we take a closer look at one of the most beloved
passages in Scripture. We are utilizing
a video resource on RightNow Media by Pastor Matt Chandler. Here is the second 6 minute video we used
last night: https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Content/Series/352010?episode=2

The
RightNow video series of this week is entitled “Not Alone” and explores
Biblical friendship. In the beginning, God created one human. And in God’s
sin-free, beautiful world, something wasn’t right. That the human was alone.
The creation of Eve isn’t just the story of marriage. It’s also the beginning
of community. God exists in trinity and we were made in his image. We were created for community. And because
our Father is generous, he’s given us one of the most essential and
life-changing relationships for community: friendship. In this six-week study Not Alone,
join Jennie Allen, Lauren Chandler, and Amena Brown as they talk all about
friendship. Find out why we need friendship, discover biblical examples of
friendship, and identify the pitfalls, challenges, and joys of friendship.
They’ll dive into the tough topics of toxic relationships, boundaries, and how
to rebuild broken trust. But most of all, the teachers, real-life stories, and
study guides will help you celebrate the encouragement, wisdom, and love that
only comes when you’re not alone. Check

The carillon repairman is
scheduled to be at FBC Carthage this Thursday to repair the speakers and re-install
them in the steeple. It will be a
blessing to once again hear the hymns playing throughout Carthage.
Pray for Steve Dowell as
he has knee surgery this morning in Cookeville.
Also, pray for Trey Sanders as the doctors determine the cause of his
fever spikes at Riverview Medical Center.
You are invited to a
special wedding reception for Christy Dyer Gultom and husband, Edward this
Saturday, August 31 at Stevens Street Baptist Church, 327 W Stevens Street,
Cookeville, Tennessee. This special
event that begins at 11:30 AM. Christy
is our mission partner in New York with New City Church and Bridge Community
Church. They were married in New York on
