Happy Valentine’s Week,
Just a friendly reminder
that Wednesday is Valentine’s Day and a great opportunity to express compassion
to someone, starting with your spouse, children, parents. It is also a great time to reach out to a
neighbor, friend, or co-worker and share the love of Jesus. I remind you of the acrostic from the message
yesterday to be a BLESSING:
Begin with Prayer
Listen to their story
Eat / Fellowship with them
Serve in some way
Share your story
Invite to join you in church
Nurture the friendship
Guide in the faith
We had a great meal and a
festive evening on Friday during the Couple’s Dinner. A special thanks to Matt and Elizabeth for
leading the program on the 5 love languages.
Pray for our ministry to couples and families as we seek to strengthen marriages
and be a blessing to the home. Marriage
and the Christian home are under attack and we all need the power of Christ to
endure, to thrive, and to prosper.
Speaking of the 5 Love
Languages, here is the author, Dr. Gary Chapman, teaching on the love languages
and sharing how important it is to speak your spouse’s language. If you desire a stronger, happier, and more
fulfilling marriage, this may be the most important concept you can learn and apply
to revolutionize your marriage, your home, your relationships. Check it out:

Thank you to Marty Dodge
and Karen Shoulders for sharing Sunday night of their recent trips to
Israel. The service is available for viewing
on the First Baptist Church Carthage Facebook page. Check it out.

This Wednesday, February
14 will be the Community Food Distribution at the Ag Center. Volunteers are needed around 8:30 AM and the food
distribution will begin around 10 AM.
Remember, volunteers can prepare a box of food for themselves or a
friend. Come out and express compassion
for the needy in our community at the Community Food Distribution.
Wednesday is also the day
known as Ash Wednesday and begins the season of Lent, a period of time leading
up to the celebration on Resurrection Sunday, April 1. During Lent, believers focus on the price
Jesus paid for our sins on the cross and often “give up” something to focus on
His sufferings. This partial fast takes
the focus off of ourselves and places it on Jesus. For each follower of Jesus, may our hearts
and minds be focused on Jesus during this season as we share His love with
those around us.
Here is another good opportunity
to show compassion this week to a family in our church. This Saturday, February 17 there will be a
benefit auction for Robert and Alicia Hoffman from 1:00-7:00 PM at the Smith
County Ag Center. This benefit auction
is to help with expenses due to Robert’s battle with cancer. In addition to
attending the auction, we are asked to help provide the food and serve at the
concession stand. If you can bring some
cookies or brownies by the church on Friday and/or serve during the auction,
please contact Bro. Tim Frank.
