News for FBC Carthage - January 8, 2018

FBC Carthage E-News
January 8, 2018

Good Morning,

We began a new sermon series in the morning service yesterday entitled “Rekindle.”  For the next several weeks I want us to think on the passage in Revelation 2:5 which says, “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works.”  Not only will the messages each Sunday morning focus on the theme “Rekindle” but I also would like your interaction through a series of questions that help us consider specific areas of our church.  To facilitate that interaction we will utilize an online survey site to share your thoughts.  The site is accessible to you but is not public like Facebook or other social media sites.  This can be a helpful exercise for us all as you have opportunity to share your thoughts and dreams for our church.  To complete the six question questionnaire, go to:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SGFHVF5

My prayer is that we begin a new chapter in the life of First Baptist Church in which we rekindle God’s passion, His purpose, and His power in our lives as we reach this community for Christ.

A great way to start off the new year is in Sunday School on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM.  There are classes for the youngest babies through the oldest senior adults.  Everyone has a place in Sunday School.  Make a commitment to be in Sunday School every week in 2018.

One aspect of our new year’s emphasis will be on prayer, specifically praying for our neighbors and friends who live around us.  We are joining in an effort with churches across Tennessee to pray for every home in Tennessee in 2018.  The emphasis is called “Pray4TN.”  Individuals are encouraged to sign-up online to pray for their neighbors.  Each week, names of your neighbors will be emailed to you to pray.  I have been a part of this process for several months to test it out and each Monday and Friday an email comes with names of five of my neighbors.  It helps to raise the awareness of our neighbors and gives a simple reminder to be praying for them.  You can check out the site and sign-up at www.blesseveryhome.com.  In addition to providing names of neighbors for prayer, the site also has many helpful articles and videos for training.

Each year we focus on Reading the Bible Though.  For this year we are using a plan that includes both an Old Testament reading and a New Testament reading each day.  An easy way to keep up with your readings is through the Bible Gateway Bible App on your phone or computer.  Sign in and sign up for the OT/NT Plan and Bible Gateway will send you a reminder email each day.  We will also have the weekly readings in the bulletin.  Here is the web site for Bible Gateway:  www.biblegateway.com/readingplans.   Click on Subscribe under the Old/New Testament plan.  Then click on "Start this Devotional on January 1, 2018.”   You can choose to receive an email reminder each day that links to the readings for the day.

We had a great start to the Winter/Spring semester of AWANA last night.  There were several new children for the first time studying the Bible and learning God’s word.  I encourage all parents to have your children in AWANA each week.  There is no substitute for memorizing the passages of the Bible, especially when you are young.  AWANA meets on Sunday nights at 5:30 PM in the Christian Life Center.

Thank you to those who participated in the mission projects last week at the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home.  Watch for many other opportunities to serve others in the coming months.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
