FBC Carthage E-News for December 25, 2017

FBC Carthage E-News
December 25, 2017

Merry Christmas to you and your family!  Enjoy this wonderful day of celebration with your family and friends.  Our family is getting together for lunch and it will be so much fun, especially with Carolina and her first Christmas.  It seems the whole year centers on and counts down to this day.  Merry Christmas!

Christmas is the day set apart for celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  It is His birthday we are remembering today.  In all the presents, food, and festivities; take time to remember Jesus and wish Him a “Happy Birthday.”  The Children’s Choir sang “Happy Birthday, Jesus” in both services.  That is one of the songs that make Christmas special for me.  If you missed either of the services yesterday take time to watch them on the First Baptist Church Carthage Facebook page.  Both services were filled with blessings and praise to Jesus.

Today is a perfect time to read of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  In your private devotion time or in a family gathering, the birth passages in Matthew 1-2 and Luke 1-2 are the reason we celebrate.

I have discovered a wonderful acapella group singing Christmas carols on YouTube. The group is called Pentatonix.  Here is their singing of “Mary Did You Know?”  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifCWN5pJGIE
There are many other familiar Christmas carols from this group.

Today is a great time to send a text or make a call and share Christmas cheer to your family and friends.  Post a Christmas greeting on Facebook.  It’s a great day to share Jesus.

Merry Christmas!
Bro. Tim

Here’s a couple of things for the week:

·        The Church Office will be closed on December 25-26 for the Christmas holiday.

·        We will have Wednesday night services at 6:30 PM this week but no supper.

·        We are in the process of upgrading our entry doors and hardware.  As we do this we will change all the door locks and we will issue new keys.  The original key still works for now on the front door, but all other door locks have been changed.  A sign-up sheet is located in the Connection Point to request a new key.

·        On Sunday, December 31 we will have evening services with our shut-ins in their homes.  We will meet at 4:00 PM in the Sanctuary and divide into smaller teams for the visits.

·        Our annual mission trip to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home will be next Tuesday and Wednesday, January 2-3.  There will be several projects to choose from.  Start your year off with missions.  Be a part of this rewarding trip.  Here is a list of projects we will be doing:
-Repair gutter at Malone
-Paint bathroom at VP House
-Paint living room and hall at Johnson House
-Unstick windows at Campus Office (painted shut)
-Take down Christmas decorations at gym.
-Clean gym
-Weather permitting, Eastman Cottage needs some landscaping.
-Sanding and finishing a small room. The Sheetrock is up with one coat of mud.
-Hanging blackout curtains at Elijah’s House

·        Do you have a plan for end-of-year giving?  Check out this link for a free End-of-Year-Tax-Planning List, a simple guide that features some techniques outside the usual means of giving that may interest you as you prepare your year-end gifts.   The information is made possible through the Tennessee Baptist Foundation.  http://mailchi.mp/tnbaptist/are-you-prepared-for-the-future-with-a-legacy-ministry-1657613?e=8218e9c7a6

·        A new semester of GriefShare will begin on Tuesday, January 9 at 2:00 PM in the Chamber of Commerce meeting room, 939 Upper Ferry Road.  GriefShare is a 12-week support group for those who have experienced the grief and loss of a loved one in death.  GriefShare is open to everyone and is sponsored by First Baptist Church Carthage, Bass Funeral Home and Sanderson Funeral Home.  There is no cost for the sessions and workbooks are available for $15.  For more information contact Pastor Tim Frank at (615) 735-1929 or by email tfrank@fbccarthage.com. You don’t have to walk through grief alone.
