FBC Carthage E-News for March 13, 2017

FBC Carthage E-News
March 13, 2017

Good Morning,

I am enjoying reading through the Bible again this year using the Bible Pathways booklet as a guide and devotional thought.  Each day there seems to be a message and encouragement directly speaking to me in my life.  Today the passage was Joshua 1-3 and the preparations for entering the Promised Land.  Joshua sent two spies to spy-out Jericho and they were helped by an unlikely ally, Rahab, the harlot.  She helped them, protected them, and in return, asked that they remember her and her family.  Her faith was in the Lord and He allowed her and her family to be “saved” because of her faith.  I love the symbolism in the story as she tired a scarlet cord out the window.  The devotion made note that Jesus is “revealed in this account through the scarlet cord in the window that saved Rahab and her household, symbolic of the blood of Christ” that saves you and me from our sins.

If you haven’t started on the Bible reading journey, or if you are behind, start today with Joshua 1-3 and see the Lord Jesus revealed each day in the pages of the Scripture.  Bible Pathway Devotional Guides are available in the front foyer and in the Connection Point.  You can also find the daily guides online at http://www.crosswalk.com/devotionals/biblepathways/.

Continue to pray our Spring Revival, May 7-10 with Bro. Kewon Foster as he preaches the Word and the Nesbitt Family as they lead in worship.  To hear a message by Kewon Foster at Stevens Street Baptist Church in Cookeville, go to:  https://vimeo.com/142790070

Start now, thinking of family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers you can invite to attend the Spring Revival  services, May 7-10.  Also, be praying for and inviting members of FBC Carthage who have been MIA, Missing in Attendance.  Revival time can be a great opportunity to reach the lost and un-churched in our community.  It is also a time to re-connect with those members of FBC Carthage who have become inactive.

We have so much for which to be thankful.  This week take some time to thank the Lord for the cross and His great love poured out on us.  I love the song “Thank You for the Cross” as a reminder and a call to thankfulness.  You can listen to it online:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAplJ0_jDFc

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here is the news for the week:

·        This Sunday, March 19 will be a special day as we have Bill Gruenewald, President/Treasurer of Tennessee Baptist Foundation as our guest in the morning service.  Following the service, we will have a covered dish luncheon in the Christian Life Center and Bill will conduct an estate planning workshop.  We will also have a local attorney sharing 5 reasons every person needs to have an up-to-date will.  This will be a very helpful and informative luncheon for you and for your family.  How we leave our family after we have dies is a lasting part of our Christian stewardship and testimony.  There is no charge for this workshop.

·        The Young at Heart Luncheon will be next Tuesday, March 13 at 11:30 AM in the Christian Life Center for all adults 55+.  Bring a covered dish and join us for the fun.

·        Join us for a “Call to Prayer” on Tuesday mornings at 7:00 AM in the Sanctuary through the Spring Revival.

·        The special exercise classes continue this Wednesday in the Christian Life Center at 1:00 PM.  Everyone is invited to participate in this low-impact exercise program designed to help with mobility, stamina, and balance.

·        The Sew n Sews will meet this Friday, March 17 at 9:00 AM.  This group of ladies meet each month and make pillowcase dresses for the Operation Christmas Child boxes we will pack in November.  All ladies are invited to join in the fun, fellowship and great project.

·        We have a little more than a month left for our trial of  Right Now Media, a Christian Study “Netflix” type resource that offers Marriage, Parenting, Bible Study and Christian Growth videos that you can watch for free.  There is no cost to you through the church’s subscription.  If you would like to participate simply send me an email to tfrank@fbccarthage.com with the email address you would like to use.  If you have been using Right Now Media, send me a note to the address above and tell me what you think about the videos.  Your input will be important to us as we make the decision to continue this resource or not.

·        Here are the Nursery Workers for the coming weeks:

Mar. 26 - Angela Apple        Candice Apple

·        GriefShare is meeting now on Tuesday evenings, 6:00 PM at the Smith County Chamber of Commerce, 939 Upper Ferry Road.  It’s not too late to join in this grief support group that offers help and comfort to those who have lost a loved one.  You don’t have to make the journey through grief alone.  The sessions are open to everyone and there is no cost to attend.

·        Have you discovered Bible Gateway, an online Bible resource with over 50 English translations and many foreign languages.   King James and New King James are included in the translations available.   I find Bible Gateway extremely helpful in my study as a concordance.  You can simply type in a word or phrase and every verse containing that word will be shown in a matter of seconds.  It is a free resource online and there is also an app available for your smart phone.  Check it out at https://www.biblegateway.com/
