FBC Carthage E-News
February 1, 2016
Good morning,
What a difference a week
makes in Tennessee. Last week we had a
winter wonderland with cold weather and snow.
This weekend was sunny, warm, and spring-like with people out for a walk
in shorts and tee shirts. The old saying
is true, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a few days and it will be
much different.”
I enjoyed the special day
yesterday as we had the baptism of Carrie Denney and observed the Lord Supper. These two ordinances of the church were given
to remind us of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ.
Speaking
of special services, mark your calendar to be at each of the activities and
services February 12-14 as the Personnel Committee introduces Matthew Davis as
the candidate for the Minister to Youth and Families. He and his family live in the Memphis area
and are active members of Bellview Baptist Church where he has served in the
youth and families ministries as a volunteer for many years. He and his wife Elizabeth are expecting their
fourth child in the summer. During the
special weekend you will have opportunity to meet Elizabeth and the three
girls, Bailey (6), Nora(4), and Morgan(2).
Matthew has his Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Memphis,
Master of Christian Studies from Union University, and is working toward his
Master of Divinity from Liberty University.
Here
are the special services and activities for the weekend with Matthew and
Elizabeth:
Friday, February 12
6:00 PM
Church-wide Potluck Dinner, Discussion and Movie (CLC)
Everyone is invited and asked to bring
a covered dish as we have a church-wide
Valentine dinner followed by the movie,
War Room. Matthew will share during the
dinner time and take your questions.
Saturday, February 13
7:30 AM
Deacon Breakfast (CLC)
12:00 Noon Youth Leader Luncheon (Kenneth and Lisa Reece’s Home)
5:30 PM Youth,
Parents, Leaders Fellowship and Pizza (CLC)
Sunday, February 14
9:30 AM Visit
in Sunday School
10:45 AM Matthew
will be preaching in the Morning Service
11:45 AM Special Business Meeting to Call Matthew Davis
as Minister to Youth and Families
During
the February 10 regular church business meeting at 6:30 PM the Personnel
Committee will discuss the salary, benefits and other housekeeping matters for
the Minister to Youth and Families position.
In addition, they will bring a recommendation to allow Matthew and his
family to use the vacant house the church owns on Fite Avenue for up to six
months while the Davises sell their home in West Tennessee and look for a place
to live in Carthage.
Pray
from Matthew and Elizabeth as they prepare for their visit to Carthage. This is a big transition for them but they
seem so excited as we see the hand of the Lord bringing us together. Pray for our church and the days ahead as we
move forward in the Lord’s work here in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee and
to the ends of the earth.
The
message yesterday was on forgiveness and the power of receiving God’s
forgiveness. The message also focused on
the command for believers to forgive others as they have been forgiven by
God. Here is a moving video I had hoped
to show but time grew short. Listen to
this young lady’s forgiveness toward a horrific event in her life: http://sovereignhopechurch.com/endless-grace-a-story-of-forgiveness?gclid=CPmY2LzGyMoCFdgPgQodmYoFKg
Have
a blessed week:

Thanks again.

The Young at
Heart group is planning a trip to Cumberland County Playhouse on Tuesday,
February 16 at 9:30 AM to see Church Basement Ladies. The story takes place in rural Minnesota with
this celebration of the church basement kitchen and the women who work there!
Laugh along with these four unforgettable women as they organize the food and
solve the problems of a rural church in 1965.
They stave off potential disasters, share and debate recipes, instruct
the young, and keep the Pastor on course while thoroughly enjoying (or at least
tolerating) each other as the true "steel magnolias' of the church. Witness the church year unfold from below the
house of God with this funny, down-to-earth musical comedy! Tickets are $23 and we will have lunch before
the program.
·
A
ladies Bible study is in the works for Monday night, February 15 to study “The
Battle Plan for Prayer”, a follow-up Bible study from the movie War Room. Beth Kiedrowski is leading the study in the
