FBC Carthage E-News for December 8, 2014

FBC Carthage E-News
December 8, 2014

Good Morning,

This week continues the celebration of Christmas 2014 as we focus on “Christmas is a season of peace.”  This Wednesday night during the Bible study portion of the service we will reflect on this theme.  Jesus is the Prince of Peace.  The angels announcing His birth sang out/shouted out/proclaimed “Glory to God in the Highest and on earth, Peace, Goodwill toward men.”  Yet, two thousand years later our world continues to be filled with war, hate, and violence.  Jesus speaks to this in John 16:33 as He says, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”  The peace Jesus brings to each believer is peace with God through forgiveness and the peace of God the surpasses understanding.  In the midst of violence and hatred the Christian can have peace in Christ.  The glorious promise is that one day the believer in Jesus will be completely delivered from sickness, pain, hatred, and death in the eternal life which reaches beyond this life.  Peace is possible only through the Lord Jesus Christ who came to earth as a baby, laid in a manger, grew to be a man,  died on the cross for your sin, and rose again in victory over death, hell and the grave.  Christmas is a season of peace.

During December we will be receiving the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions.  This offering goes directly to support the Southern Baptist missionaries serving throughout the world.  It is our joy to join together each year in promoting and giving to reaching the people of the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  As David Platt, President of the International Mission Board said Sunday night in the evening message, “Christians have an obligation to share the gospel with the people who have never heard.”  The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is part of our fulfilling that obligation as we give so others can hear and receive Christ.  It provides us with an avenue through which we can give a special gift to Jesus on His birthday.  100% of this offering goes to the missionaries and mission work done through the International Missions Board.  Check out the stories, devotionals, and many special resources at http://www.imb.org/main/lottie-moon/default.asp.

I have had two families say they would like to help families this Christmas.  If you would like to help a family in need or if you know of those needing help this Christmas please contact me, Bro. Tim at 735-1929.

Thank you all the prayers and kind words as we look toward Jill’s wedding on January 3, 2015.  It is great to have such a loving and caring church family.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
