FBC Carthage E-News for December 16, 2013

FBC Carthage E-News
December 16, 2013

One of my favorite special events of the Christmas season is our evening of services with our homebound members.  Last night was no exception.  I enjoy the closeness you feel as you sit in a living room or den and sing Christmas carols, read the scriptures, share memories, and pray together.  Last night we also observed the Lord’s Supper.  Thank you to all who participated in these special services.

As you walk into one of our local stores there is a sign that says “9 Days Until Christmas.” Some will say, “Christmas is only a week from day after tomorrow.”   There are many ways of counting down to Christmas but for me I think of the special services and events and realize there are only three special Christmas events remaining.

·        Tonight, Monday, December 16 is the Ladies Ornament Exchange at 6:30 PM in the Christian Life Center.  All ladies are invited.  Bring an ornament to exchange and finger food to share.

·        Sunday 22 will be Christmas Sunday with one combined morning service at 10:00 AM.  The Sanctuary Choir will lead us as they present a special Christmas musical, “Jesus, There’s Something About that Name.”

·        Tuesday, December 24 at 5:00 PM will be our candlelight, Christmas Eve Service with Christmas Carols and an observance of Communion.

One special after-Christmas event will be our mission trip to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home in Franklin on January 2-3, 2014.  We will leave both days at 7:00 AM from FBC Carthage and return each evening around 6:00 PM.  There is no cost for this trip, just money for lunch at one of the local restaurants.  There will be a sign-up sheet at the Connection Point or you can sign-up on the Attendance Registers under the Comments.  This is a great Family mission project for all ages.  We will be painting in one of the cottages, doing yard work, and other projects requested.  This is a great way to begin the New Year, on missions for the Lord Jesus Christ.

This Sunday, December 22, the entire offering will go to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions.  Our goal is $15,000 and we can reach it with a great offering this week.  This is your Christmas gift to Jesus, that His gospel may be shared through the 5000+ missionaries around the world.  Give and give generously this Sunday for missions.

Have a blessed week as you finish up your shopping, baking, and preparation for the wonderful celebration of Christmas!
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1.      The Ladies Ornament Exchange is tonight at 6:30 PM in the Christian Life Center.  All ladies are invited to bring an ornament and finger-food.

2.      This Sunday, December 22 will be our special Christmas Sunday with only one service at 10:00 AM.  We will not have the early service or Sunday School that day.  In addition, we will move the Sunday evening service to our Christmas Eve Service on that following Tuesday night.  Invite your family and friends to attend the Christmas Sunday Service with you this Sunday.

3.     The Youth Winter Conference is the weekend after Christmas, December 27-29 in Sevierville Wilderness in the Smokies Resort.  Permission forms and money are needed as soon as possible.

4.     The Youth will also have a special New Year’s Eve Fellowship on Tuesday, December 31 from 7:00 PM to 12:30 AM in the Christian Life Center.

5.     If you are looking for that one last gift, remember the Women on Mission Cookbooks.  You can see Faye Reece, Kathy Reece or Melody Tackett for a copy.

6.     In 2014 we will provide the Bible Pathway booklets which give a reading plan for reading through the Bible in a year.  If you have never read through the entire Bible or if you have read it through many times. I encourage every person to take this challenge and read the entire Bible in 2014.  There are copies of the Bible Pathway in the front foyer and the Connection Point.  We have enough for everyone to have a copy of the January booklet.  Pick yours up this week.

7.     We have been given 500 New Testaments, Psalms and Proverbs to give away in 2014.  Pick up several copies and begin giving them to people you meet.  In addition to the scriptures, they have many pages of helps and study material.

8.     Yesterday we focused on Joseph and his obedience to do what God said.  Here is a great video from the Skit Guys on a person playing Joseph in a Living Nativity.  It’s OK to laugh and/or cry at the same time.  Merry Christmas!
