Good morning,
This past week was a great
week as I celebrated my birthday and had a chance to visit with Jill, our older
daughter in Texas. Thank you for the
many “Happy Birthday” posts on Facebook and the encouraging words. A birthday is always a good time to give
thanks to the Lord for the blessings of another year and to ask His leadership
and direction for the year to come.
I appreciate Jeff Hall and
Brad Tackett covering things while I was away.
In addition to leading the Wednesday night bible study, Bro. Brad also
lead the Defeated Creek Campground service with 6 in attendance.
Please pray this week for
our friends in Nairobi, Kenya after the terrorist attack in one of the shopping
malls. Pray for Pastor Wanje and the
people of Ridgeways Baptist Church as they minister to their city during this
crisis.
Speaking of Ridgeways
Baptist Church in Nairobi, we will have the privilege of hosting the youth
pastor, Pastor Hamisi, on Sunday, November 10.
He worked closely with our mission team in 2011 and coordinated joint
effort in Malindi. He will be sharing in
both morning services.
Plans are being made for a
mission trip to Hilo, Hawaii on January January 20-31, 2014. We will be working with Zeke and Layne
Tomaselli in planting Ohana Church. Here

Supper in both morning services this Sunday, September 29.

3. During the month of September the Women on Mission group has been collecting recipes and compiling a cookbook. Your recipes are needed for this project and the proceeds will go to help provide needed ministry resources for the First Baptist Church in Poplar, Montana as they work with the Native American children. Forms to submit your recipes are available in the front foyer and in the Connection Point. The deadline to submit recipes is Sunday, September 29.
4. Check out the new studies and activities on Wednesday nights:

Mission Friends
for children ages 3-kindegarten will begin on Wednesday night, October 2 at
6:30 PM in the Preschool Area.
·
The Children’s
Choir will continue rehearsals each Wednesday at 6:30 PM for grades
1-6 as they work toward a
special Christmas program.

The Youth will
begin a new study titled “Fast Track” on Wednesday, October 2 at 6:30 PM. This study will present an overview through
the entire Bible in eight weeks.

The Adult Bible
Study on Wednesday nights will begin a new series entitled “Sure” through the
book of 1 John on Wednesday, October 2 at 6:30 PM
5. Youth Winter Camp will be December 27-29 at the Wilderness in the Smokies in Sevierville, Tennessee. Permission forms are available and need to be returned to Bro. Jeff.
6. The College Road Trip is being planned for Bro. Tim and Bro. Jeff to visit our students on the various college and university campuses and take them out for lunch or dinner. The following is a tentative schedule for this “Road Trip.” Students, let us know if this schedule works into your schedule:
10/ 1 Lunch at Cumberland University in Lebanon
10/7 Lunch at Vol State in Gallatin
10/8 Supper at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville
10/9 Lunch at Campbellsville College in Kentucky
10/15 Lunch at Belmont University in Nashville
10/16 Lunch at Hartsville Tech
10/29 Lunch at UT Knoxville
7. Attention College Students: We are planning on taking a group to the Passion Conference in Atlanta on January 17-18, 2014. Please contact Bro. Jeff to reserve a spot.
8. During Smith County Fall Break, October 21-26, the New Salem Baptist Association is planning a daily Backyard Bible Club from 4:30-6:00 PM at the housing areas in Carthage and South Carthage. We will lead the sessions on Monday, October 21 at South Carthage and Thursday, October 24 at Carthage.
