FBC Carthage E-News for January 28, 2013

FBC Carthage E-News

January 28, 2013

Good afternoon,

I have had a little delay in my writing schedule today due to being in Nashville with Walker Hackett and his family. His surgery went very well and he was on his way home by 10:30 AM. As you pray for Walker to have a speedy recovery, I also ask you to pray for Jayne Ann Hackett and her dad, Ed Taylor. He is in the Critical Care Unit at Summit Hospital.

We had a great response to our Baby Bottle Offering with over $1000 given for the work of the Pregnancy Help Center. The Center provides encouragement, hope, and resources to ladies and families as they are expecting a child. The Center also carries the message of abstinence before marriage into the local schools. If you would like more information on the Pregnancy Help Center simply go by 108 College Avenue West and meet the volunteers. The Center is open Mondays 1-5PM, Wednesdays 8AM-5PM, and Saturdays 10AM-2PM. Volunteers are needed in this important ministry.

We have been having great attendance on Wednesday nights for our mid-week prayer service at 6:30 PM. Each week we focus on several mission and ministry issues through special prayer and then break into groups to pray for specific needs and concerns. Our desire is for FBC Carthage to become a house of prayer. You are encouraged to join with us each week as we seek the Lord and bring our prayer concerns before Him.

Speaking of Wednesday nights, don’t forget our other activities beginning with supper from 5:00-6:00 PM. At 6:30 PM we have missions and choirs for preschool and children, as well as, Bible study and activities for youth. The evening wraps up with Sanctuary Choir rehearsal at 7:30 PM. Plan to attend the services and events this Wednesday night.

Don Pierson, Prayer Coordinator and Growth Strategist for the Tennessee Baptist Convention will be our special guest this Sunday, February 3 in the morning services. He will be sharing the challenge of reaching into our community through Community Groups. In the afternoon, Don will e leading a training session for those interested in hosting and/or leading a Connection Group. These groups could meet in your home, workplace, school, or community. The focus is reaching people in the community who are not connected to FBC Carthage. Please pray for the Lord to use us in reaching Carthage and Smith County with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

One of the prayer emphases this year is for God to send revival and spiritual awakening in our lives, our church, our community, and our nation. As a part of that focus, we are challenged to set the first day of each month as a day of prayer and fasting. This Friday, February 1, I encourage each member to fast (do without food) for at least one meal and spend the hour you would be eating in prayer for this call to revival and spiritual awakening. We need revival. America needs a spiritual awakening. May this year be the one in which we as believers become desperate for God’s Holy Spirit to move in a fresh way in our hearts, our church, and our nation. Let’s take the challenge to fast and pray for God’s power to be seen and His name glorified.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1. Our Mission Trip to the Tennessee Baptist Children's Home in Brentwood is less than two weeks away (Friday, February 8)! Check out the sign-up lists in the Connection Point and get involved! There are teams you can join that work here beforehand, and there is a Travel Team you can join to reserve a seat on the bus for the actual trip. You can help before we go by shopping, cooking, cutting wood pieces for bird house kits, cutting fleece for pillows, or buying and organizing supplies for crafts. There are so many great ways to be involved as we Exalt Christ, Establish Connections, and Express Compassion to the children and adults at the Tennessee Baptists Children's Home in Brentwood. Get involved! We'll be as blessed as they are through this missions effort (Sponsored by the FBC WOM).
