FBC Carthage E-News
December 3, 2012Good Morning,
Christmas has started off
with a bang! The first Sunday of Advent
began with our theme “The Gift of Christmas.”
Jesus is The Gift, the Greatest Gift, which was given to us by God. We proclaim with the angels, “Glory to God in
the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” Express your thanks and
praise to God during this season for all He has given to you through Jesus
Christ.
The AWANA Family Christmas
Celebration was a great event last evening with 71 children, 29 workers, and 33
parents, family members and church members. There was a great sense of
excitement in the air throughout the entire evening and especially as the
children opened their gifts. Thanks to
all who brought gifts and for all the work that went into the special evening. One of the children, Tyler Hackett, came
forward during the Invitation and prayed to receive Jesus as His Lord and
Savior. It was a great night.
This week is the Week of
Prayer for International Missions and begins our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering
for International Missions. A prayer
guide was included in each bulletin to focus our prayers for missions through
the week. You can also read the guide
and watch mission videos at www.imb.org.
Our church’s international
mission offering goal is $14,700 which is one third of a missionary’s annual
salary with the International Mission Board.
Everyone is encouraged, urged, and challenged to give a gift this year
for the mission efforts around the world to share the name and love of Jesus. Let
your gift for international missions be at the top of your giving list this
Christmas.
The Lighthouse Girl’s
Christmas Party was a huge event with over 400 girls from across Middle
Tennessee. There were thousands of items
for the girls to choose from as they selected gifts for their parents,
siblings, and others. Not only do the
children receive gifts but they also have the opportunity to be blessed as they
learn to give gifts to others.
This Saturday, December 8
is the Lighthouse Boy’s Christmas Party and we will be taking the church bus
for the boys from Smith County and those who would like to go and help with the
event. We will meet at the church
parking lot and leave by 8:30 AM. Volunteers
are needed and encouraged to come.
Pray for Marty and Shelia
Dodge as they travel to Montana and serve for a couple of weeks with the First
Baptist Church in Poplar. FBC Poplar is
without a Pastor and they will have many opportunities to minister to the
people while they are in Poplar.
Have a blessed week as you
celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ,
Bro. Tim1. The Carthage Christmas Parade will be tonight, December 3 and we will have hot chocolate and coffee in the front yard of the church and Christmas carols on the steps. Plan to come, sing some carols, and minister to our community through a cup of hot chocolate in Jesus’ name. We will meet in front of the church at 5:30 PM.
2. The Women on Missions will meet tonight at 7:00 PM at Marreet Hutchin’s home, 649 Carmack Avenue. All ladies are invited to attend.

The Adult Prayer Time and Bible Study will meet in the Christian Life Center this Wednesday. The adults will have a special prayer focus on missions during our Week of Prayer for International Missions.
4. The Children’s Choir will be leading us in worship on Sunday night, December 9 at 6:00 PM. During this special service we will also have a “Hanging of the Greens” in which we will decorate the Sanctuary for Christmas while focusing on each item (the tree, greenery, candles, etc.) and its role in honoring the birth of our Savior. Following the service, refreshments will be served and a time of fellowship enjoyed in the Christian Life Center.
5. The annual Ladies Christmas Ornament Exchange will be Monday, December 10 at 6:30 PM in the Christian Life Center. All ladies are invited and asked to bring finger foods to share and an ornament to exchange.
