FBC Carthage E-News
August 27, 2012Good Morning,
Last night we had a great
study of the 23rd Psalm. This
passage of scripture has been a comfort and strength for God’s people for millennium. This morning I was thinking of the storms of
life and the blessing of having the Lord as my shepherd. The great news is that He desires to welcome
others into the fold as they place their faith and trust in Jesus as Savior and
Lord. What storms are you facing? The Lord Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd
who has given His life for the sheep.
May He also be your Shepherd to provide, protect, and be with you
through life.
During our sharing time last night, a book was shared that had been of great help in a time of need. That book was Praying the 23rd Psalm by Elmer Towns and is available to you for free online at: http://elmertowns.com/books/online/Pray23Psalm/Praying23rdPsalm%5BETowns%5D.pdf
The first 5th
Quarter Youth Fellowship was a great success. We had 136 students sign-in and
participate in the games, food, and devotional.
Thanks to all who helped with this ministry. The next two Fridays are also home football
games and 5th Quarter Fellowships.
If you would like to help, contact Phillip Slagle or call the church
office at 735-1929. Pass the word about the
5th Quarter Fellowships.
Continue to pray for the
Personnel Committee as they seek God’s direction in our personnel needs. We are currently receiving resumes from a
Part-Time Minister of Music and a Full-Time Minister to Youth. Resumes can be mailed to the church office at
409 Main Street N Carthage, TN 37030.
For more information persons can contact Tim Frank at 735-1929.
We are excited in all the
Lord is doing in the Hispanic Mission which meets in the Christian Life Center
each Saturday night at 6:30 PM. They are
having great attendance and are actively reaching out to the Hispanic community
in Smith County. This is a great
ministry and we are privileged to be a part of the work. Please note that the CLC is reserved each
Saturday night after 6:00 PM for their services.
Speaking of reaching out
to the community, we will begin a series of training and visitation on Sunday,
September 16 at 3:00 PM. These sessions
will be studying the “More Life” curriculum produced through the Tennessee
Baptist Convention. I encourage every
believer to come and learn how to share their faith in Jesus Christ.
Have a blessed week as you
live for the Lord Jesus Christ,
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the
week:
1.
Attention ladies, our
first Women on Mission meeting will be tonight, August 27 at 6:30 PM at the
home of Melody Tackett, 740 Jackson Avenue in Carthage. This meeting will
kickoff plans for Operation Christmas Child. All ladies are invited and
encouraged to attend.
2.
Next Sunday, September 2 will be our
Church-Wide Labor Day Picnic. We will
gather at the picnic pavilion beside the basketball court at Defeated Creek
Park. Games will begin at 4:00 PM, we
will eat at 5:00 PM, and we will have our evening service at 6:00 PM. Bring a picnic dish and we will enjoy this
evening together.
3. Sunday, September 9 will be a special Deacon Ordination Service at 3:00 PM. This will be our evening service for that Sunday as we gather together to set-aside five of our men in the service of a deacon. The five men being ordained are: Tom Broyles, Michael Collins, John Etheridge, Stephen Russell, and James Trainham.
4. We have had a great response to the sign-ups for Children’s Church in the 10:45 AM service. All months have workers enlisted except February, March, June and July. The Children’s Church is a great ministry to the children and a blessing to the parents. Children’s Church provides an age-appropriate class setting for children ages 3-1st grade.
5. A reminder of last week’s request from the Smith County Help Center for donations of clothes and other items that are needed. They are also in need of non-perishable food donations. We will be having a church-wide food collection on Sunday, October 14 as part of a World Hunger Day focus. You can also bring food directly to the Help Center and drop it off at their back door.
6. We have the opportunity to host an Operation Christmas Child Rally at the Ag Center on Saturday, September 29 at 6:00 PM. Timberloft Restaurant is providing dinner that evening as we kick-off this mission effort. Operation Christmas Child collects shoe boxes filled with toys and items for children around the world and distribute them with the message of Jesus Christ. At the rally, our special guest speaker will be Oksana Nelson, who as a young girl, received a Christmas shoe-box in an orphanage in Russia. Later she was adopted by a couple in the United States and is now a great promoter of the shoe-box ministry of Operation Christmas Child. Watch the bulletin and e-news for upcoming information on our participation in this ministry effort to the children of the world.
