FBC Carthage E-News for August 20, 2012

FBC Carthage E-News

August 20, 2012

Good Morning,

Our focus verse for several weeks is Colossians 3:17 which says, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” May this be a verse we live by in our homes, at work, at school, and wherever we go. Live for Jesus Christ and let your words and actions always honor Him. As a believer, you are Jesus’ representative in your world.

The five deacon candidates did an outstanding job yesterday in the Deacon Ordination Council which unanimously recommends them to the church for ordination and service. The Deacon Ordination Service will be Sunday, September 9 at 3:00 PM. This will be a special day for these five men and for our church. The men being ordained as deacons are: Tom Broyles, Michael Collins, John Etheridge, Stephen Russell, and James Trainham.

The Sunday School teachers had a great meeting and rally yesterday morning to kick off the new Sunday School year. Thank you Mark and Gina Dillon for getting the meeting and delicious breakfast together for the teachers.

Sunday School teachers are reminded of the Sunday School University training tonight at Stevens Street Baptist Church in Cookeville. We will meet in the church parking lot at 5:30 PM and take the bus. The training begins at 6:30 PM.

There will also be a training class tonight at the Sunday School University for those interested in starting Connection Groups in your workplace, community, or home. These outreach groups are designed to take the gospel to people who are not presently attending any church. This training will be a help in getting a group started and I encourage you to attend. We leave from the church parking lot at 5:30 PM.

In the next couple of weeks our college students will begin a new semester. These are important years in the lives of these students and their families. Be praying for our students as they begin their studies.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1. This Friday, August 24 will be our first 5th Quarter Youth Fellowship for students in grades 7-12. The students will gather after the game in the Christian Life Center for games, refreshments, and an inspirational devotion. Spread the word to all the students you know. Also, if you would like to volunteer to help with the 5th Quarter you can contact Phillip Slagle or call the church office at 735-1929.

2. Ladies, our first Women on Mission meeting will be next Monday, August 27 at 6:30 PM at the home of Melody Tackett, 740 Jackson Avenue in Carthage. This meeting will kickoff plans for Operation Christmas Child. Make your plans to attend.

3. The Personnel Committee is receiving resumes for two ministerial positions: Full-Time Minister to Youth and Part-Time Minister of Music. If you have a family or friend you would like to be considered have them send a resume to the church office to the attention of Bro. Tim Frank. The Personnel Committee will meet this Wednesday night, August 22 at 7:30 PM. Please pray for the committee as they allow God to lead them in this process. The committee members are Phillip Slagle, Brad Tackett, Ann Cole, Marreet Hutchins, Jim Broyles, and Tammie Key.

4. A church-wide Labor Day picnic will be held on Sunday, September 2 at the Defeated Creek Park’s Picnic Pavilion beside the basketball courts. We will begin with fellowship and games at 4:00 PM and eat at 5:00 PM. The evening service will be held at the picnic pavilion around 6:00 PM. Bring a picnic dish and join in this time of fellowship as a church family.

5. We will begin a special evangelistic emphasis called “More Life” on Sunday afternoon, September 16 at 3:00 PM. The Lord Jesus Christ calls every believer to be a witness of their faith to others. So many, however, never share their testimony or their faith with the people around them. “More Life” will provide a time of training to help each person know how to share their faith. There will also be a time of going out in teams of three sharing what is being learned. Its time to make an eternal difference in the lives of the people around us.

6. The Girls In Action (GA’s) will be collecting school supplies for local and mission needs for one more Sunday. This annual Christmas in August emphasis focuses on the need for school supplies in the area schools. Collection boxes are located at the entrance doors.

7. The Mission Trip/Camp Meeting to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut has been rescheduled for October 10-16. Place that date on your prayer calendar and be praying for those making this initial trip to the Inuit people. We have prayed for this trip for almost two years that God would open the doors for a work to begin among the Inuit.

8. We mentioned yesterday of the request from the Smith County Help Center for donations of clothing and other items for their thrift store. The proceeds of these items are the life blood of the Help Center. The sales pay the light bills, personnel expenses and provide money to assist with the needs of people in Smith County. Through these sales, every penny the church and others give to the Help Center goes to help the needy in Smith County. Let’s rally together, clean out our closets, and make a donation of items to the Smith County Help Center. The Help Center is on Main Street in Carthage.

9. Speaking of praying for missions, continue to pray for Zeke and Layne Tomaselli as they get settled in for their year of training and prepration in Las Vegas. Layne begins a new job today as a teacher in the school she worked in before moving to Tennessee. They also have a contract on their house and are praying its closing. If you are not receiving their e-prayer updates online you can be added to by sending a request e-mail to Kandy Smith, Prayer Coordinator for Ohana Church, at ohanachurchonline@gmail.com.
