Happy President’s Day,
I know many are out of school and off work today for President’s Day, a day which is set aside to remember two of our Presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, around their birthdays. During this day, I encourage each one to take a moment and pray for our President and our nation. We live in a great nation, a great nation that has many critical issues that need our prayers. More than just a vacation day, let this day be a time to reflect on our nation, pray for our President, and be thankful for the freedoms we have in America.
We had a great planning meeting for the 2012 mission trip to Poplar, Montana to work with the First Baptist Church. The dates of the trip are June 24 thru July 3. I encourage you and your family to prayerfully consider being a part of this mission team. We will focus on Vacation Bible School with the Native American children. The church will also be involved in constructing a new Fellowship Hall and classrooms which can also be a part of the work. The projected cost of the trip is $175 which includes your transportation on the bus, lodging, and meals in Poplar. We will have our second planning meeting on Sunday, March 11 at 4:30 PM. Plan to attend and be a part of the team.
Have a great week as you serve the Lord,
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. The Second Harvest Food Distribution will be held this Friday, February 24 at the Ag Center. The truck will arrive between 11:00 and 11:30 AM. Help is needed in getting the food organized and ready for distribution. The actual distribution will begin at 1:00 PM. Come and be a part of this community event.
2. The deacons are reminded of the New Salem Association’s annual Deacon Fellowship on Thursday, February 23 at 6:30 PM Brush Creek Baptist Church. We will enjoy a great meal, good fellowship with deacons from the churches in the association, and an inspirational time with Steve Holt, deacon specialist with the Tennessee Baptist Convention.
3. As you drive by or frequent KFC/Taco Bell, McDonalds, Subway, and/or Wal-Mart this week, remember to pick up a gift card to bring to church and put in the birthday package for our missionaries' kid Zach Brubaker. His birthday is March 3, so we'll be mailing his package on Monday, February 27th. Also, we need four or five batches of homemade chocolate chip cookies if someone will signup to make those. See Kandy Smith at church this Wednesday night or call her at 489-6912. Zach's parents are serving on the mission field in Germany, so we are helping to take care of "the kid" while they're gone. There is nothing like a birthday box from "family" when you're away at college!
4. The Revival by the River will begin two weeks from yesterday on Sunday, March 4th at the Smith County Ag Center. The services will be held at 7:00 PM each night. This community revival is a great time as believers from many area churches gather together. Various local pastors will be preaching and music groups from the area will be leading the worship. Listed below is a schedule of the Revival by the River services:
Sunday, March 4 Shane Smith and the Mid-State Quartet
Monday, March 5 Bobby Peoples and Holy Crossing
Tuesday, March 6 Jackie Dawson and the Bryant Family
Wednesday, March 7 Tim Frank and Four-given
Thursday, March 8 Floyd Massey and Zeke Tomaselli
Friday, March 9 Steve Farris and Right on Time
5. Two of the community prayer meetings remain before the Revival by the River. These prayer times are open to you to attend. Tonight, the prayer meeting will be held at the Gordonsville Nazarene Church at 7:00 PM. Next Monday, the prayer meeting will be at our church, FBC Carthage at 7:00 PM.
6. Listed below are two great movies. Both have a strong Christian message and portray the difference Jesus makes in a person’s life.
Courageous is the story of four sheriff’s deputies as they realize the importance of being a Christian father. This movie has a strong family theme and was made by the Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. They also made Facing the Giants and Fireproof. Check out the trailer:

Soul Surfer is based on the true story of a young Christian girl who loses her arm in a shark attack during surfing. Her Christian faith and determination to surf help her overcome this devastating injury. The special features section includes a documentary made of the real life family and their strong faith in Jesus Christ.
