FBC Carthage E-News for October 3, 2011

FBC Carthage E-News

October 3, 2011

Good frosty morning,

There is nothing like a brisk, clear fall morning in Tennessee to give me a lift in my spirit and a smile on my face. The blue of the sky is spectacular. Every day is a gift from God, whether clear or cloudy, cool or hot. Each day we are reminded of God’s faithfulness and His care for us. Take time today to pause and thank God for the day and a new week to live, work, and serve Him.

Last week’s On Mission Celebration was a blessing and a challenge. It is always a blessing to meet some of our missionaries and hear their messages. As Southern Baptists, we have almost 10,000 missionaries serving in the United States and around the world. This past week gave us a few faces to represent those thousands of missionaries we support.

The On Mission Celebration also brought a challenge as the missionaries shared of their work. Each one had a specific thought that has stayed with me. Here are a few of those thoughts:

“You are either a missionary or a mission field.” Dwayne Brown
“Poverty has become our Samaria.” Randy Poole
“What is the one thing, the ‘it’, you are praying for your church?” Don Pierson

Last night during the evening service as we looked at several Bible study helps, we mentioned Bible Gateway which is an Internet based Bible study tool on our church web site http://www.fbccarthage.com/.  It is found on the Media page under links. Take a minute to look at this tool and see the help it can be to you in your study. You can look up scripture verses, compare translations of a verse, and locate verses containing a specific word.

Have a blessed week and enjoy the beautiful day the Lord has made.

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1. This Wednesday, October 5 will be our monthly business meeting at 6:30 PM in the Sanctuary. In addition to hearing reports of the ministries of FBC Carthage, the Budget Committee will present the 2011-12 budget.

2. Our first Membership 101 class met yesterday with 13 in attendance. We will offer this one-session class on the first Sunday of each month at 9:30 AM in the Pastor’s Office. If you are a new member, or considering becoming a member, you are invited to attend. The next meeting will be Sunday, November 6.

3. This week begins our College Road Trip 2011. Bro. Tim and Bro. Zeke hope to visit on campus with all of our students. If you are a student, or have a student in college, send us a reply note with their name, college, e-mail and/or cell-phone number so we can contact them for this special visit.

4. During October, we will be preparing and praying for our Fall Revival with Bro. Jimmy Arms. The revival services will be November 6-9 and the theme will be “Committed: Being the Church.” Be praying for our church, lost friends, and Bro. Jimmy as we prepare our hearts for this special week. We will have Home Prayer Meetings during the week of October 24-28.

5. We had about thirty join us Saturday night at the Roxy Theatre in Lebanon for the movie “Courageous.” It has a powerful message for the family, especially for dads. I encourage all couples, especially the dads, to see this movie. It is a message we all need. I believe it will be at the Roxy through this weekend.

6. The Pregnancy Help Center is open and operating each Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at 108 College Avenue West, behind Heartland Realty. There are still a few projects that need to be completed before winter. Friday and Saturday, October 14-15 will be work days to help finish these projects. This would be a great opportunity for individuals or Sunday School classes to be a part of a local mission project. Work will begin each day at 8:00 AM at the Pregnancy Help Center. For more information contact Tim Frank.

7. Speaking of missions and class mission projects, last week Jim Wilburn mentioned his desire for a CD duplicator to begin a ministry on Long Island, New York with the homebound. Here is the model Jim has suggested would be of help to the ministry of North Shores Baptist Church:

If you, or your class would like to be a part of providing this ministry need, contact Tim Frank or Jim Wilburn directly at wilburn.jim@gmail.com.

8. The New Salem Baptist Association will have its Annual Meeting on Sunday, October 23 from 2:00 – 5:30 PM at Riddleton Baptist Church.. This one-session meeting will make it possible for greater participation. We will elect messengers from FBC Carthage to the Annual Meeting this Wednesday night during the monthly business meeting.

9. On Sunday afternoon, October 16 an opportunity will be given for us to take a stand for life. The annual Life Chain will begin at the corner of Main Street and Highway 25 at 2:30-3:30 PM. Anyone wishing to participate should come a few minutes early to be assigned a place in the Life Chain.
