FBC Carthage E-News for August 8, 2011

FBC Carthage E-News

August 8, 2011

Good Morning,

My family and I are headed to College Station, Texas to get Jill moved and settled in her new apartment. She will begin her studies at Texas A&M soon. Pray for Jill and all the college students as they prepare for a new semester of learning.

One of the blessings of college for me was the Baptist Student Union (BSU), now called the Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM). As Baptists, this is our ministry on the college and university campuses. The BCM provides discipleship, fellowship, and missions opportunities for the students. Here is a link that will give you more information on the BCM ministry in Tennessee:

Speaking of our students, a special word of congratulations goes to Sam Smith and his Internship at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. Sam will begin his seminary studies this Fall at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Check out Prestonwood at:

The first rehearsal for Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames was a powerful experience. This dramatic presentation will be a blessing to our community and I believe many people will come to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord through this experience. The drama will be presented August 28, 29, and 30 at the Smith County Ag Center. Invite your family and friends to attend with you. Invite those lost friends for whom you have been praying.

There are still a few non-speaking parts for men and women needed in the heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flame presentation. Contact me or Lynn Sharenberger to find out more information and sign-up.

Remember to pray for the work of the New Salem Association of Baptist and our Director of Missions, Marty Dodge. I appreciate Marty preaching last night in the evening service. He is a blessing to me, to our church, and to the association. An Open House will be held next Sunday, August 14 from 2-4 PM at the Association office on Highway 70 East towards Lebanon. Come out and learn about this avenue of our work through the New Salem Association of Baptists. To learn more on-line, go to:

Ladies, I remind you to mark your calendars, invite a friend, and plan to attend the Beth Moore “Living Proof” Live Simulcast, scheduled for Saturday, September 10. The morning session will begin at 9:30 AM and the afternoon session at 1:00 PM. This year, the simulcast will be held at the Smith County Ag Center and there is no admission cost. One last word, Dr. David Sills has a great post on his web site on missions and mission trips. Several of our students have indicated a sense of call into missions. Dr. Sills gives several helpful steps to take as you consider missions. Take a minute to read through his thoughts:

Have a blessed week and I will see you on Wednesday night.
