FBC Carthage E-News for August 29, 2011

FBC Carthage E-News

August 29, 2011

Good Afternoon,

The talk on the street and the posts on Facebook are about the Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames dramatic presentation last night at the Smith County Ag Center. The crowd was standing room only and the presentation was powerful. Many people came forward at the time of the invitation to open their lives and hearts to Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

If you missed last night, I strongly urge you to come tonight at 7:00 PM. This presentation dramatizes what our ultimate purpose is all about as a church in Carthage, Tennessee. There is an eternal destiny that awaits every person and the decision they make about Jesus in this Christ in this life makes all the difference.

The drama also reminds Christians of the importance, the urgency, to share with others the message of Jesus. How can we know that judgment and Hell await the soul without Christ, and not share the good news of salvation? Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames has caused me, your pastor, to recommit my life and ministry to sharing the gospel of Jesus. This is the message we have to share.

Use this week and the special services to make an eternal difference in the life of a friend or family member. See you at the Ag Center.

Bro. Tim

Here’s the News for the week:
1. It is a joy to welcome Dezi Gage and Judy Markham to FBC Carthage. These have requested membership in the church and we will begin their process for membership.

2. The church-wide Labor Day picnic will be this Sunday, September 4 at 5:30 PM at the Defeated Creek Picnic Pavilion, next to the basketball courts. Bring a picnic dish to share together and soft drinks of your choice. We will have a cornhole tournament starting at 4:30 PM for those wishing to participate. A sign-up sheet will be available on Wednesday night and Sunday morning at the Connection Point.

3. Brad Tackett will be leading the Defeated Creek Campground service this Sunday, September 4 at 8:30 AM. You are invited to come out and be a part of this special service.

4. On Saturday, September 10, you have the incredible opportunity to study the Bible with Beth Moore at the Simulcast which is taking place at the Ag Center. The doors open at 8:00 with local worship starting at 9:00. The morning simulcast session begins at 9:30 and ends at 11:30. You'll do lunch on your own from 11:30 to 1:00. The afternoon session is then from 1:00 until about 4:15. During the final 45 minutes of the lunch time, you'll have the opportunity to preview the soon-to-be-released movie Courageous. You may want to either bring a lunch or make plans to grab something and bring it back so that you can get a taste of this promising new film from Sherwood Baptist Church (Facing the Giants, Fireproof). In preparation for the Simulcast on September 10, we'll be prayer walking at the Ag Center this coming Saturday, September 3, meeting at the Ag Center at 8:00. Join us as we ask God to take our preparation and use it to accomplish His will in our lives and in the lives of women from all over Smith County.

5. On Saturday, September 17, Lighthouse Christian Camp in Smithville needs some ladies to ride in boats with girls as they are given the opportunity to be out on the lake and fish. There will be boat drivers and fishermen, so all you'll need to do is be there as the female mentor to these wonderful girls. Email Kandy Smith at ksmith90@utk.edu or call her at 489-6912 if you can help. If you haven't been over to Lighthouse Christian Camp and seen not only the awesome facilities and God's incredible handiwork but also the unbelievable work that is done through this ministry, please consider giving a few hours on the 17th of September to be a part of this work. You'll be glad you did. We should be home by mid-afternoon.

6. The deacon’s meeting will be a little early this Sunday afternoon, September 4 at 3:00 PM due to the Labor Day Picnic.

7. Save these dates: We will be having a special On Mission Celebration September 24-28 with guest missionaries, mission’s presentations, and a mission’s fair. More details will be coming in next week’s E-News.
