FBC Carthage E-News for June 27, 2011

FBC Carthage E-News

June 27, 2011

Good Morning,

The day began early for thirty adults and youth as we met at 5:30 AM and left at 6:00 AM for Orange Beach, Alabama for Youth Camp 2011. Last year’s camp was an awesome week of worship and life-change for our group. The Lord did amazing things in the lives of many, especially the bus driver. This year I am the bus driver so I am excited about the week. Pray for Youth Camp 2011, for safety, and for God to move in the hearts and lives of all those who attend.

Last week was an amazing week of Vacation Bible School. We had just over 150 children enrolled and over 50 adults and youth serving in various leadership roles. Perhaps the most amazing aspect of the week was the picnic on Friday night at the park. There were many parents and families from the community who came to see their children sing and have a great evening at the park. A special thank you goes to all the VBS teachers, directors, and workers. It truly was a Big Apple Adventure.

Speaking of Vacation Bible School, all workers and parents are asked to go online and complete the survey to help us evaluate and prepare for next year, VBS 2012. To complete the survey, go to: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/3SHQ9GV

Everyone is reminded of the Church-wide cookout next Sunday night, July 3 at the Defeated Creek Campground pavilion. We will meet at 5:00 PM and plan to eat at 5:30 PM. The church will be cooking hamburgers and hotdogs. Bring a picnic covered dish and soft drinks of your choice. Also, if you have a corn hole game, please bring it with you. A special patriotic service will be held at 6:30 PM.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:

1. We are glad to welcome three ladies who desire to unite with our church fellowship: Lisa Swan, Billie Lowe, and Anna Belle Lowe.

2. Plans are being finalized for the Mission trip to Poplar, Montana, July 4-13. Please be praying for the team and for the First Baptist Church in Poplar. The people of the town are going through a difficult time of flooding and water in many basements. This mission team will be called on to be very flexible and responsive to the changing needs of this community in crisis.

3. Speaking of Montana, we have had a great response to the “Raising the Roof” offering for the FBC Poplar. Sunday, the bulletin reported over $2800 with more than $500 coming from the offering of the children during VBS. There is still time for you to give toward this special offering.

4. Two other teams from the New Salem Association will be on mission during the week of July 11. These teams, going to Rogersville, Tennessee and Wiamea, Hawaii, will have members from FBC Carthage.

5. Work continues on the Pregnancy Help Center facilities. This week we are working on refinishing the wood floors and finishing up painting. If you have a couple of hours to help please contact the church office or A.J. Sharenberger.

6. Please remember the great opportunity we have to minister to our community at the Smith County Fair, July 25-30. We will plan to have a ministry booth again this year and people are needed each evening. If you can serve one night, or more, send a reply to this e-news. We will be doing face painting, balloon animals, water distribution, and other ministry activities.

7. Plans are coming into place for a great community evangelistic effort, August 28-30, called "Heaven's Gates and Hell's Flames." This event will be a dramatic presentation of judgment day, the glory of heaven, and the horrors of hell. The actors for this presentation will be people from our church and other participating churches. Scripts will be available within the next couple of weeks with casting try-outs July 22-23. You are needed to be a part of this powerful event in our community.

8. Jim Broyles will be leading the service this Sunday, July 3 at the Defeated Creek Campground at 8:30 PM. His class will be joining him for this special ministry at 8:30 PM.
