FBC Carthage E-News
June 20, 2011

Good morning,

Bible School is off to a good start and the excitement is high as we begin a great week of Bible study, crafts, music, missions, recreation and crafts. The theme of VBS 2011 is The Big Apple Adventure with the focus on New York City. Here are some specifics for this year?s VBS:

Motto: Hear It! Believe It! Connect It!

Scripture: Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Pray for the VBS workers as they share the truths from God?s word with the children. Tuesday will be the day they share the gospel presentation. Pray for clear understanding of this important message.

There is room in each class for more boys and girls to join in the fun. VBS 2011 meets each evening this week from 6:00 ? 8:30 PM with classes for ages 3 through 12th grade. Invite friends and family to join in the adventure, the Big Apple Adventure.

If you missed the special E-News report from the Mission Kenya Team last week you can read it on my blog at www.ontheword.blogspot.com. The Mission Kenya Team will share their report this Sunday, June 26 in the 6:00 PM service. Come and hear the great things the Lord has done in Africa and in the lives of the mission team.

I want to say a special word of appreciation to everyone who helped in the services and ministry in my absence. I have heard many good reports from the messages and services. Thank you.

Happy Father's Day to the dads in the congregation! We gave a special gift yesterday to the men in the services, a copy of the book, Man in the Mirror. There are several copies available on a first come first served basis in the church office. Stop by and pick up a copy.

Sunday was the "mid-way" point on our Amazing Journey through the Bible in 2011. We completed our study of the Old Testament with the book of Malachi. Next Sunday begins our journey through the New Testament, beginning with the Gospel of Matthew. I encourage you to read the gospel of Matthew this week. By reading four chapters a day, you will finish Matthew in seven days.

It is a blessing to be back in Carthage and to serve along with you at First Baptist. Have a blessed week,

Bro. Tim

Here's the news of the week:

1. During this month we are receiving a special offering to go towards a new roof for the First Baptist Church in Poplar, Montana. A bundle of shingles cost approximately $33. The 2011 VBS offering will be going toward this mission effort. Everyone is asked to be a part of "Raising the Roof" for FBC Poplar.

2. Work continues on the Pregnancy Help Center facilities. This week we are working on refinishing the wood floors and finishing up painting. If you have a couple of hours to help please contact Bro. Tim.

3. We will have our annual cookout at Defeated Creek Campground Pavilion on July 3. The church will provide the hamburgers and hot dogs. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and soft drinks. Other churches in the New Salem Association will be joining with us for this time of fellowship. We will meet at 5:00 PM, eat at 5:30 PM, and have a service together at 6:30 PM.

4. The Smith County Fair is just over a month away, July 25-30. We will plan to have a ministry booth again this year and people are needed each evening. If you can serve one night, or more, send a reply to this e-news. We will be doing face painting, balloon animals, water distribution, and other ministry activities.

5. Plans are coming into place for a great community evangelistic effort, August 28-30, called "Heaven's Gates and Hell's Flames." This event will be a dramatic presentation of judgment day, the glory of heaven, and the horrors of hell. The actors for this presentation will be people from our church and other participating churches. Scripts will be available within the next couple of weeks with casting try-outs July 22-23. You are needed to be a part of this powerful event in our community.

6. Reminder: The Church Council will meet this Sunday, June 26 at 4:00 PM and the Deacons will meet at 5:00 PM.
