FBC Carthage E-News for May 9, 2011

FBC Carthage E-News

May 9, 2011

Good Morning,

These are two big weeks in the Frank home. Sara will be graduating from Smith County High School on Saturday and Jill will be graduating from Union University the following Saturday, May 21. Several have asked me if I am crying yet and the answer is, “Of course.” It is hard to go through these life transitions and not feel a sense of emotion. Some of the emotion is excitement as the girls begin a new chapter in their lives. Jill will be moving to College Station, Texas for graduate studies at Texas A&M. Sara will be going to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to begin her college years. Fran and I will move into the interesting time of life know as “the empty nest.” I am thankful for a great church family to walk with us through this time in our lives. I’ll let you know how it is on the other side of the transition.

We will have an Open House celebration this Saturday, May 14 from 2-4 PM in honor of Jill and Sara’s graduations. You are invited to come by for some delicious refreshments and say a word of congratulations to the girls. We live at 607 Main Street N.

I also appreciate all the prayers and inquiries about Fran’s dad, Paul Herald. She is with her dad and mom in Knoxville where he is in a Hospice facility. He is having a difficult weekend and please continue to pray for him and the whole family.

On a lighter note, if you missed the service yesterday you missed an excellent video tribute to moms. Here is a link:

Here is another one from the same group that gives a perspective from two moms:

The book Twelve Extraordinary Women by John MacAuthur was given to all ladies yesterday at the end of the services. We will be offering some women's book club meetings starting in late May/early June discussing these twelve women from the Bible. More details will be coming through the bulletin and future E-News. There are a few books remaining at the church office if you would like to come by and pick one up.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our moms.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1. The Islam Awareness Conference began last night at the Ag Center and continues through tomorrow at 6:30 PM each evening. With so much reference in the news, it is important to have a Christian perspective on Islam. This event is sponsored by the Smith County Ministerial Alliance.

2. Remember the graduates this week:
Friday, May 13 Gordonsville High School
Saturday, May 14 Smith County High School

3. Next Sunday, May 15, the Children’s Choir will present their spring musical, The Amazing Grace Race at 6:00 PM. Everyone is invited for the presentation and the finger-food reception immediately following. This is always a great evening with many friends and family joining in for the program. Take a few minutes to be aware of those around you, greet them warmly, and help them feel at home at FBC Carthage.

4. Vacation Bible School will be coming up very soon and if you have not signed up to help, contact Becky Mitchell or Rhonda Ethridge. You can also send a reply e-mail to the church and we will be glad to forward them to Becky and Rhonda. The VBS dates are June 19-24, 6:00 – 8:30 PM each evening.

5. Speaking of VBS, all workers will receive a Missions 2011 T-Shirt with this summer’s special theme. Please send a reply e-mail with your t-shirt size. This is also for all participants in the mission trips this summer (I assume all mission team members will be serving in some capacity in Vacation Bible School.)

6. A new special event this year for our children in the Children’s Day Camp, May 23-26 at the Smith County Ag Center from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM each day. The cost is only $10 per child, which includes lunch and a T-Shirt. See Zeke for more information. This will be a great “kick-off” to the summer.

7. The Relay for Life Team will meet on Sunday, May 22 between the first service and Sunday School in Bro. Tim’s office. Everyone is encouraged to plan to attend the Relay for Life on Saturday, June 4 at the Smith County Courthouse.

8. The renovation continues on the Pregnancy Help Center facility at 108 College Avenue West. Listed below are the projects still needing to be completed before the center opens in June:

Here are several days we will be working on the house:

Volunteer training has been scheduled for the Pregnancy Help Center Volunteers Tuesday, May 31-Friday, June 3 at 6:30 PM and Saturday, June 4 at 8:00 AM. The cost for the training is $10 which covers the cost of the workbooks. This new ministry will be a great blessing to Smith County in its stand for life, abstinence, and healing.

9. Let’s end today’s E-News with one more great mother’s day video from the Skit Guys:
