FBC Carthage E-News
May 23, 2011
Good Morning,
By the time you read this I will be headed toward the great state of Texas. Jill, my oldest daughter, and I are going to look for a place for her to live during her graduate studies at Texas A&M. I will be the proud father of a Texas Aggie. I can feel the jokes pouring in.
I want to say one last congratulations to the Class of 2011. We attended Jill’s graduation at Union University Saturday and it was an important time for the families as well as the graduates to celebrate.
This week begins what I believe will be our greatest Summer of Missions yet. There are mission trips, camps, and events every week of the summer. This week is the Children’s Day Camp at the Smith County Ag Center. Preparations are being made for up to one hundred children, grades 1-6, to attend. The camp is Monday thru Thursday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. You can still register your children at the Ag center.
Next week is our third ReFuel Community Youth Mission Week and it is already looking to be our best yet. That seems to be a theme already this summer. Almost 100 youth are signed up for this week of ministry and missions right here in Smith County. Make sure your teens will be a part of ReFuel, May 30-June 2, from 1:30 – 8:00 PM at the Smith County Ag Center.
A special thank you goes to Charlie Daigre, Janet Bailey and others from FBC Carthage for leading the Defeated Creek Campground service Sunday. They reported twenty in attendance.
We also want to welcome our 2011 Summer Interns who begin their service this week. Marcus McBee, Taylor Reece, and Shawn Pinson will be serving this summer in many different ways. In addition to ministry in Smith County, they will also be participating in the mission efforts locally and around the world. Put them on your prayer list.
Before we go to the news, let me remind you to pray for our mission efforts each week this summer. Special times are set aside each Wednesday at 6:00 PM and Sundays at 5:30 PM to pray especially for the mission efforts of the week. I also encourage you to pray that the Lord will allow you to be a part of leading at least one person to Him this summer.
Have a blessed week and remember to pray,
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. The work on the Pregnancy Help Center is making progress. We will have a work day this Saturday, May 28 at 8:00 AM. Come and help get the center ready to open soon. The Pregnancy Help Center is located at 108 College Avenue West.
2. Speaking of the Pregnancy Help Center, the training of volunteers will be next week, May 31-June 4. If you would like to serve in this vital ministry or would like more information, contact the director, Debbie Bernal, at 615 281-8499. The volunteer training will be at the Smith County Chamber of Commerce on Upper Ferry Road, Tuesday, May 31-Friday, June 3 at 6:30 PM and Saturday, June 4 at 8:00 AM. The cost for the training is $10 which covers the cost of the workbooks.
3. The Relay for Life Team met yesterday and finalized plans for our participation in the June 4, Smith County Relay for Life to be held at the Courthouse Square. We will have a booth with food and activities. Everyone is encouraged to come to the square for this year’s Relay. Each booth will have food with the proceeds going toward the American Cancer Society. This Community festival is a direct contact of our church to the people of Smith County. Bring the kids and enjoy the evening. Most booths open around 5 PM and the activities begin with the Survivor Walk at 6:00 PM. Our team has many ways which you can be an active part of Relay. For more information you can contact our Team Captain, Joe Hackett or contact the church office.
4. This Sunday, May 29 is Memorial Day and special envelopes will be available for you to make a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory or honor of a loved one or friend who has battled cancer. As part of your memorial (donation of at least $5), a luminary will be placed in memory of your loved one along the route of the 2011 Relay for Life.
5. We will observe the Lord’s Supper in remembrance of our risen Savior, Jesus Christ, as part of the two morning worship services this Sunday, May 29.
6. The evening services will be held as part of our Memorial Day Church Picnic, this Sunday, May 29 at 5:30 PM at the Defeated Picnic Pavilion near the basketball court. Bring a picnic dish(s) to share together.
7. Are you signed up to help in Vacation Bible School, June 19-24? There are opportunities for everyone to be a part of this important week in the life of our church.
8. Raise the Roof is the special offering we are receiving during the month of June for the Mission Montana project with the First Baptist Church in Poplar, Montana. The roof is in great need to be replaced and the members of the team are preparing to do the work. Everyone can be a part of this mission effort by donating the cost of a bundle ($33) or several bundles of shingles. Offering envelopes will be available in the pews for this mission project.
