Where From Here?
Matthew 28:16-20
Focus Verse: Matthew 28:19 -20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
For the disciples, the crucifixion and resurrection were not the end but the beginning. Jesus would soon ascend into Heaven and be seated at the right hand of God, but before He left He gave them their mission. We call that mission the Great Commission. He instructed the disciples to go into all the world and make disciples of all the nations. That is a big task. That is the task that still goes on today. That is an unfinished task.
We talk a lot about missions at FBC Carthage. We support missions through our giving, our praying and our going. We consider ourselves to be a "mission-minded" church. However, the Great Commission goes deeper than the task of a church organization. No it is the task of each and every believer. We do not fulfill the Great Commission by being associated with the church. No, you and I are called and commissioned by Jesus Himself to live a life "on mission" wherever you may go.
You may ask, "How do we live 'on mission'?" First, exalt Christ in all you do and say. Next, establish connections with the people you come in contact with. Finally, through those connections, express compassion by sharing with them the good news of Jesus Christ, His death for their sins, and His glorious resurrection. Live the mission.
Do I live "on mission" for Christ?
Is my life centered on exalting Him?
Do I have compassion for people and seek to establish connections with them through which I can share Jesus?
Dear Lord, May I be a follower of Jesus who lives my faith by sharing with others the hope I have in Him.
