FBC Carthage E-News for February 21, 2011

FBC Carthage E-News
February 21, 2011

Good Morning,

I want to start off this e-news with a report from “We Love Smith County” workday last Saturday. Wow! There were almost one hundred people participating in the day’s projects. In addition to seeing much work done, there was a great spirit of fellowship and working together. There are many opportunities to get to know fellow church members as we serve together. Thank you to those who helped coordinate the projects, those who provided supplies, the ladies who prepared the lunch, and all the workers in the projects. It was a wonderful day together. I encourage the Sunday School classes to consider doing a project each quarter within your class. There are so many needs, so many opportunities.

One of the comments I heard from the “We Love Smith County” Day went something like this: “When I woke up Saturday morning, I really wanted to roll over and go back to sleep, but I went ahead and got up and went to the church. During the day we had a great time serving together. As I was going home, I said to my wife, I’m glad we did this. I enjoyed the day.”

There is joy in serving. There is joy in being on mission. There is joy in allowing God to work through you to touch the lives of others.

Two congratulations this week:
• Congratulations to Jeremiah and Haley Wilkerson on the birth of their son, Mack Lowery. Mack was born on Friday, February 18. Reece Wilkerson is his proud big brother. Congratulations to all the family.
• Congratulations to Russell and Misty (Manning) Vincent on their wedding this past Saturday, February 19.

Have a blessed week walking with the Lord, Jesus Christ,

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1. Welcome to Bo Broyles, son of Tom and Amy Broyles, as he came forward yesterday, accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Be praying for Bo and his family as he begins his life as a believer in Jesus.

2. Tonight - Monday, February 21, you are invited to attend an informational meeting for the Smith County Pregnancy Help Center at 6:30 PM at the Chamber of Commerce building on Upper Ferry Road. One of the projects we worked on Saturday during “We Love Smith County” Day was the house which the Pregnancy Help Center will use as they begin in June. The Pregnancy Help Center is a Christ-centered ministry in Smith County, Tennessee offering life affirming, compassionate care to men, women, and children who face pregnancy related issues. The center will offer these services:
 Free Pregnancy Tests

Volunteers are needed in all areas of this ministry, including renovating the house that has been provided for the center to use at 108 College Avenue West.

4. We announced last week plans for writing and sending daily devotions by e-mail. We are working toward a target starting date of Wednesday, March 9 which will be 40 days leading up to the celebration of Resurrection Sunday 2011. If you would like to write one of the devotions on the theme of the crucifixion and resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ, please contact the church office by e-mail or call 735-1929. Specific passages will be assigned for specific days leading up to Resurrection Sunday.

Everyone is affected by cancer’s devastation, through friends and family. This is one way we can join together with our community and help in the fight.

8. Last night, we studied through Joshua with the thought of “We Have Not Come This Way Before.” In Joshua 6 we shared the battle of Jericho and made reference to the song “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho.” Here is an exciting arrangement of that song (I especially love the enthusiasm of the director):
