FBC Carthage E-News for February 14, 2011

FBC Carthage E-News
February 14, 2011

Happy Valentine’s Day,

The one distinguishing characteristic of Christians is to be our love for God, for one another and for others. Jesus gave this commandment in John 13:34-35 as He said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” On Valentine’s Day, and every day, I encourage you to express your love to others by your words, actions, and attitudes.

Be praying for Zeke and Layne as they are sharing with Zeke’s family celebration of his dad’s wedding this afternoon. This is a special time in the family’s life and I am glad Zeke and Layne could be there for the service.

I appreciate Jerry Wilmore leading the worship yesterday. We are blessed with great musicians who lead us each week. Thanks to all who shared in the services on Sunday.

Everyone is reminded of the special “We Love Smith County” emphasis this Saturday, February 19 at 8:00 AM. We will meet in the Christian Life Center and organize in the work teams. Lunch will be provided through one of our Sunday School classes.

Have a blessed Valentine’s Day,

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news:
1. The monthly business meeting will be held this Wednesday, February 16 at 6:30 PM. We dismissed services last week due to the snow so everything is pushed back to this Wednesday.

2. Due to the snow last Wednesday, we have rescheduled the initial Relay for Life team meeting for this Wednesday night, February 16 at 7:30 PM after the prayer service. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life event will be held at the Ag Center on Saturday, June 11. This annual event helps raise money to fight cancer. Many, if not most, of our families have been impacted by the devastation of cancer. Everyone is invited to join in this effort, especially those who have been touched by cancer.

3. Deacons are reminded of the Deacon Conference this Thursday, February 17 at New Middleton Baptist Church.

4. We will have a Vacation Bible School leader’s luncheon this Sunday, February 20 after the second service.

5. Speaking of meetings, this Sunday afternoon, February 20, at 4:00 PM we will have a planning meeting for our Summer mission trip to Montana, July 4-13. Everyone interested in this trip are urged to attend. We will discuss the travel, lodging, work and cost.

6. On Monday, February 21, an informational meeting will be held for the Smith County Pregnancy Help Center at 6:30 PM at the Chamber of Commerce building on Upper Ferry Road. The Pregnancy Help Center is a Christ-centered ministry in Smith County, Tennessee offering life affirming, compassionate care to men, women, and children who face pregnancy related issues. The center will offer these services:
 Free Pregnancy Tests
 Pregnancy Support/Resources
 Abstinence Education
 Post Abortion Counseling
Volunteers are needed in all areas of this ministry, including renovating the house that has been provided for the center to use at 108 College Avenue West.

7. The Revival by the River will be coming up very quickly as we join together with several area churches for two weeks of special events beginning Monday, February 28 at the Ag Center. These events will be:
Revival by the River February 28-March 5
Smith County Women’s Conference March 7-8
Smith County Youth Conference March 9-10
For more information click on the church web site at www.fbccarthage.com, click on events, and click on Revival by the River.

8. We are working on plans of writing and sending daily devotions to members, family and friends who would make request. These devotions will be sent daily by e-mail so there will be several people needed for this new ministry. We will need people to:
• Write the devotions
• Organize the process
• Create and maintain the e-mail list
• E-mail the devotions daily
If you would like to be a part of this new ministry, contact the church office by e-mail or call 735-1929.

9. This Sunday, February 20, we will receive a special offering for the rebuilding of the worship building at Camp Linden. Camp Linden is a camp and conference center of the Tennessee Baptist Convention, located just outside Linden, Tennessee. The worship building was damaged beyond repair in last year’s flood. Plans are being made for a new building to be rebuilt. Everyone is asked to give toward this special need within the Tennessee Baptist Convention. For more information, click on the link below:
