Happy New Year!

There is always a sense of excitement and expectation as we begin a new year. There is a “putting behind” of those things from last year and a “pressing on” to all God has for us in 2011. The Apostle Paul says this in Philippians 3:13-14, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Yesterday, we began our emphasis on “The Amazing Journey.” During the Sunday services we will be studying through the Bible in one year. I will be preaching and teaching from Genesis through Revelation. As we walk through the Bible, we will highlight the four purposes from yesterday’s message:
o The Bible has a divine purpose. 2 Timothy 3:16 says “All scripture is inspired by God” which means it is God’s Word, given for His purpose.

o The Bible has an instructive purpose. The Bible teaches what to believe and how to live the Christian life.

o The Bible has an equipping purpose. The Bible prepares us for the ministry and mission God has called us to do.

o The Bible has a redemptive purpose. Throughout the Bible, we will see God’s desire for a relationship with men and women through faith in Jesus Christ. The Old Testament will be point forward to Jesus, the Messiah. The New Testament will be focused on the life which Jesus gives to all who believe in Him.

Happy New Year to you!
Bro. Tim

6. Please pray for the Inuit people of Northern Canada. They are our adopted unreached people group and as a church we are asked to pray for them, that an door may through which we can carry the gospel of Jesus Christ. Here is an encouraging e-mail we received this week from a professor at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky:
“I would be glad to share with you or your church team more details if you would like. According to NAMB, our SBTS ethnographic research team is the only Baptist effort that has ever been carried out that far north. I would love to help anyone who desires to work in that area.”
