FBC Carthage E-News
January 17, 2011
Good Morning,
It is great to be back in Tennessee after a week of class in Virginia. The class was extremely helpful and I believe it will be very useful in the work here at FBC Carthage. Here are some of the key points I gained during last week’s class:
· The most important task of a spiritual leader is prayer.
· A leader with passion will turn a weekly meeting into a life-changing event.
· Everything cannot be a priority. Learn to establish proper priorities. 20% of your work will produce 80% of your results. Learn to identify that 20%. This is also seen in Jethro’s advice to Moses in Exodus 18:1-27.
· Jesus loved all the people, equipped many, but trained only a few. The ones He trained, the apostles, changed the world.
· To work as a team will produce greater results than working separately. We can do more than me and you.
· The best way to lead people to pray more, study the Bible, grow as a Christian, and learn is to get them involved in ministry.
· The most effective method of evangelism is planting new churches. Living as Christians and a church “on mission” involves church planting.
A special “Thank You” to Zeke, Brad Tackett, Paul Robinson, and others who helped cover for me while I was away at school.
Pray for Zeke and the youth as they return today from their ski retreat weekend. It sounds like they had a great time.
Yesterday, the message focused on the Sanctity of Human Life. I encourage you to remember and live out the four applications given at the end of the service:
· Every human being, from conception to the elderly, is precious to God. There are no second-class persons before God.
· How I treat others reflects my view of life. Treat people with respect and love as you would treat the Lord Jesus Christ.
· Be a voice for life: the unborn, handicapped, and elderly.
· You are precious to God and your life is a sacred trust. He loves you and cares for you. God gave His Son, Jesus, to die for your sins.
Have a blessed week as you reflect on how much God loves you.
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. This Friday, January 21 at 6:30 PM we will have a special treat, a Wild Game Dinner in the Fellowship Hall. Everyone is invited to bring a covered dish salad, vegetable, or desert and join in the fun. If you have wild game, bring your favorite dish(es). David Turner, a Christian ventriloquist from Alexandria, will be our special program for the evening. If you have pictures of trophy fish or game, bring them with you. A display rack will also be available for displaying your trophy mount.
2. As we continue our Amazing Journey through the Bible, we will be studying in the book of Exodus this Sunday. I encourage you to read the entire book during this week. If time is an issue, focus on chapters 1-20.
3. Saturday, February 19 will be a special one-day local mission project called “We Love Smith County.” Each Sunday School class is asked to participate in a project that day as a class. There are several projects already planned or your class can discover a need and meet it. Let’s all set aside this one day to reach out to our community with the love of Jesus in very tangible ways.
4. I mentioned the starting of the Smith County Pregnancy Help Center in the message yesterday. Help spread the word and pray about how you can be involved. An information meeting will be held on Monday, February 21 at 6:30 PM at the Chamber of Commerce building on Upper Ferry Road. Everyone is invited to come and learn more about this new ministry. Here is some basic information I recently sent out to the pastors in our area:
