FBC Carthage E-News
March 15, 2010
Good morning,
I begin this E-News by wishing my oldest daughter, Jill, a happy 21st Birthday!
For those of you who are parents and grandparents, you know how quickly the years rush by and the children are grown. If you still have children at home, take a few extra minutes today to do something together. Go for a walk. Sit down and talk. Go fishing. Shoot some basketball. The importance is not the activity but the time you spend together with your child, or grandchild. As you spend time with your child, share with them a Bible story or scripture that is a favorite of yours. Pass on to them what is important to you.
We had a great Youth Parent Meeting yesterday with Zeke as he shared the basic components of the Youth Ministry at FBC Carthage and the vital part the parents play in the spiritual live of their child. One of the challenges Zeke shared with the parents was the challenge to have a family devotional each day with your child/children. Read a passage of scripture. Pray together. Share a word of praise and thanksgiving. This is a great challenge and one we all need to accept. If you are not sure where to start, try reading a chapter in Proverbs that corresponds to the day of the month. You can also pick up a copy of Open Windows devotional booklet in the hallway behind the Sanctuary. A passage of scripture, a brief thought and prayer starter is given.
The worship services were a blessing yesterday and the choir did a great job with the song “Wondrous Cross”. I invite you to become a part of the choir by attending rehearsal this Wednesday night at 7:00 PM. We have Adult Bible study at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall and then dismiss the choir at 7:00 PM. Be a part of the choir as they prepare for the Easter celebration. It is thrilling to see the choir loft filled. This is a great week to join the choir.
Speaking of joining, our next Membership 101 information meeting for new and prospective members will be this Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM in the classroom to the left of the Sanctuary. This hour-long class will give you basic information about FBC Carthage and provide an opportunity to ask me questions about the church.
It was great to see Joey, Lauren and Ellia Pratt yesterday and have them share of their mission preparation and work with New Tribes Mission in Papua, New Guinea. Pray for them as they have their second child in June and plan to return to the mission field in August/September.
Let us live lives of obedience to the Lord this week, at home, at work, at school, or wherever we may go. Keep your focus on the cross. Have a blessed week.
Bro. Tim
