FBC Carthage E-News for March 1, 2010

FBC Carthage E-News
March 1, 2010

Good Morning,

As we begin the month of March there is a sense of excitement in my spirit. It may be the joy of knowing winter is almost over and spring is just around the corner. It may be the excitement that its time to start thinking about fishing again. I believe the main reason for the excitement is that Zeke Tomaselli begins his ministry with us at FBC Carthage today!

Zeke has already stopped by the office this morning and given a report on the Youth Ski Trip from the weekend. It was a great opportunity for Zeke to get to know many of the youth and parents.

This week is exciting as we look toward Wednesday night and Zeke’s leading the youth at 6:00 PM and the choir rehearsal at 7:00 PM. Be praying for these two important ministries and their impact on our church and community.

I am excited as I think of the blessing and investment we as a church can and will make in Zeke and Layne’s lives over these coming years of ministry. As I shared in the message Sunday, I thank the Lord for the churches in which I have served and their investment in my life. I am the minister I am today because of the relationships, encouragement, and guidance of the members at New Middleton Baptist, Crestwood Baptist and Stevens Street Baptist. We have that same privilege to be a blessing to Zeke and Layne as we love and encourage them.

Have a wonderful week as you serve the Lord and love the people around you.

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1. All Youth, grades 7-12, are reminded that the starting time for Youth this Wednesday, March 3 will be 6:00 PM. Zeke has several “special” things planned for this first meeting together so you will want to be sure and attend. In fact, this would be a great time to invite your friends to attend with you.

2. This Wednesday, March 3 will also be the start of the choir’s preparation for the celebration of Easter. If you have been considering being a part of the choir this would be a great time to attend. Choir members will attend Wednesday Bible study at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall and then be dismissed at 7:00 PM for rehearsal.

3. Speaking of Wednesday nights, one of our ministries on Wednesday is our suppers together from 5:00-6:00 PM. The cost is reasonable: $3 per person, $10 per family. The food is delicious. The fellowship around the tables is priceless. Plan to come for supper this week and be a part of all the excitement on Wednesday nights.

4. The Bible Pathway devotional books are in for March. If you haven’t picked up your copy you can stop by the church office this week. You can also find the devotional on the web at:

5. Bring your Buckets of Hope for Haiti this Sunday, March 7. Do not place your money inside your bucket. We will collect all shipping monies and write a check from the church to the Tennessee Baptist Convention for the costs.

6. The New Salem Association will have a Mission Trip Information Meeting this Sunday, March 7 at 2:00 PM at the Association office on Highway 70 West. The two trips for the Association will be:
July 12-17 East Tennessee Appalachia
October 8-16 Waimea, Hawaii

7. Here is a funny story sent to me this week by a friend from Cookeville:

Praying for Leroy
"Anyone with 'needs' to be prayed over, come forward, to the front at the altar," the Preacher says.

Leroy gets in line, and when it's his turn, the preacher asks: "Leroy, what do you want me to pray about for you?"

Leroy replies: "Preacher, I need you to pray for help with my hearing."

The preacher puts one finger in Leroy's ear, and he places the other hand on top of Leroy's head and prays and prays and prays, he prays a blue streak for Leroy; the whole congregation joined in with enthusiasm.

After a few minutes, the Preacher removes his hands, stands back and asks, "Leroy, how is your hearing now?"

Leroy says, "I don't know, Reverend, it ain't until next Wednesday."
