FBC Carthage E-News for August 10, 2009

FBC Carthage E-News
August 10, 2009

Good Monday Morning,

As you go through your day, remember to pray especially for the Personnel Committee and their search for a Minister to Youth and Music. We have a great committee made up of committed Christian leaders. They are praying for God’s leadership and we as a congregation are called on to pray for God to bring His person for this position. If you have not yet prayed for the committee and the search process take a few minutes right now and pray. The committee members are:
Kenneth Reece Ann Cole
Brad Tackett Jan Trainham
Jim Broyles Kay McCall
Phillip Slagle

This is going to be a great week. Jill is coming home on Saturday. Our oldest daughter, Jill, has been away all summer in Germany and she will be back this Saturday. Please pray for safe travels for her as she takes a train across Germany to Berlin and then flies to Nashville.

While you are praying this week continue to be praying for Carol Wilmore as she recovers from her surgery and for Ellen Deaver as she prepares for surgery next week. Thanks for being a church who prays for one another. I appreciate those who came and prayed with the Wilmores last week and with the Deavers this week. God is working in our church and He works through the prayers of His people. Never underestimate the power of your prayers before God.

I have placed a special “Link of the Week” on the church web-site from the North American Mission Board. It is a site dedicated to the truth of God’s Word. It is a great resource for you as you have friends and family who ask hard questions about God, Jesus, the Bible and other Christian topics. The web-site is
www.4truth.net. Check it out. You may want to save it to your favorites for future reference.

Speaking of the church web-site, check out the recent sermons on the Media page. The sound quality is much improved which will make them easier to hear as you listen. Refer friends to messages you feel will help them in their walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Have a blessed week as you lift up and exalt Jesus Christ.

Bro. Tim

9. Here is a portion of a recent newsletter from Vance and Cathy Thomas in Poplar, Montana that tells of the work of our Mission Montana Team:
Our second mission team(s) arrived on July 14th and 15th, from Northport AL and Carthage TN. That Thursday night, we used our associational Block Party trailer and had a hot dog feed, sno-cones, cotton candy and the “jumping thing”. I don’t know what you call it. It blows up and kids get in and jump! They love it. We did that from 6-8. Then we rigged all of that down and started rigging up for the movie. The Wahcinca (wah cheen cha) Dakota Oyate (oi ah tay) Pow Wow started on Friday evening. We had our water booth near the dance pavilion and our tipi was set up across the road. We had team members stay in the tipi every night.

One of the team members from TN, Philip, was able to participate in the grand entry on Saturday evening as a veteran carrying one of the flags. He was absolutely thrilled!!! He carried the Montana MIA-POW flag. That was a tremendous honor, not only to him, but to our church and ministry. Over the course of the weekend, we handed out, or made coffee with, 2 full pallets of water and a little of a third one. Each pallet has a little over 1700 bottles of water. So I would say about 3600 bottles. We had nine salvations. We will be following up with our local ones to arrange baptism or referral to their own pastor. Then to top the weekend off, we conducted worship services on the grounds Sunday morning and passed out breakfast burritos. We had always wanted to do this but had been told that we couldn’t. Not by the local committee but by the other person we had been working in conjunction with. We are working on our own this year!!! Vance just casually mentioned it to the chairman of this pow wow committee and she was thrilled. She said they had asked in the past but the other man involved did not want to do it. SO, WE DID!!!!!!!!! Vance rigged up all of our sound equipment and we used some tape music and had services right there in the dance pavilion. Brother Alan Roggli started and then Vance finished up. We had roughly 50 folks in the stands but there were LOTS more camped around the pavilion that heard. God’s Word will NOT come back void!!!!! They have now asked us to do services again at the Labor Day Pow Wow. What a grand time. This was the 4th trip for the AL team and the 3rd time to work a pow wow. Some of the locals remembered them. This was the 1st trip for the TN team, although 5 of the team members had been here in the past with a different church. This was their 1st pow wow experience. Lots of lives were touched that weekend and I am not just talking about our local folks.
