Good Morning,
E-News for June 15, 2009
Good Morning,
Here is the picture Amanda Ethridge sent me from her recet skydiving trip. WOW!!!!
Today is an exciting day at FBC Carthage as we anticipate Vacation Bible School beginning tonight, June 15 at 6:00 PM. We had over 150 people at the kick-off last night in the Fellowship Hall. Kentucky Down Under was our special guest as they shared about Australia. The sheep dog, laughing bird and skink lizard were real fun to see but I believe everyone’s favorite was the kangaroo. It was a great way to kick-off a fantastic week.
Boomerang Express is the theme of our VBS. The subject will be Jesus, “It All Comes Back to Jesus.” We will have classes for children and youth ages 3 through 12th grade. There will be bible studies, worship, crafts, music, refreshments, recreation and loads of fun. Bring your children a little early if you haven’t pre-registered. We will meet and begin in the sanctuary which will be transformed into Boomerang Express Grand Central Station. Invite other children to attend this exciting week with you.
Talking about exciting, last week was an exciting week as well with six churches joining together for a community missions event called ReFuel. We had over fifty involved throughout the week and saw many projects in the community completed. First Baptist Church Monterey led the event and did a fantastic job. The evening games were a lot of fun, even though several got a pie or two thrown in their face. As good as ReFuel ’09 was, I believe ReFuel 2010 will be even better.
With all the fun and excitement we have had a sadness in the church family this week. Bro. J.C. Franklin, one of our Deacons and a long-time church member, died on Friday and his funeral will be today at 11:00 AM. Please remember his wife Sue and his daughters Jackie Manning and Cindy Wilmore and their families in your prayers.
Have a blessed week and invite all the children and youth you know to Vacation Bible School. All Aboard!!!!!!
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. Congratulations to Casey Hackett and Eric Swann on their upcoming wedding this Friday, June 19. Be praying for Eric and Casey as they look forward to their big day.
2. We welcome Julie Cannons to our church as she came yesterday during the Invitation time to rededicate her life to Jesus Christ and to join in the fellowship of First Baptist Church Carthage.
3. Vacation Bible School is the main attraction this week. With all the festivities we will not have supper or services on Wednesday night. You are encouraged to come to Vacation Bible School each evening at 6:00 PM. Even if you haven’t signed up you can still help.
4. We are asking all Vacation Bible School workers to complete a Ministry Information Form as the beginning step of a new program we are implementing in all areas of ministry. This will be an invaluable tool as we enlist workers and as we have new members join FBC Carthage. If you haven’t completed a Ministry Information Form I have attached a copy for you to print, fill-out and bring with you. You can also complete the form and e-mail it back to me at tfrank@fbccarthage.com.
5. Sunday, June 21 is Father’s Day and we will have a special gift for every man present. We have made a special purchase of the book Love Dare and will present this to each man present. This book was made popular in the recent movie, “Fireproof,” and provides a 40-day devotional for strengthening the love relationships in your life, especially with your wife.
6. Sunday night, June 21 at 5:30 PM will be the Men’s Bake Off and Family Feud. As part of our Super Summer Sunday Night’s this will be a great time of fellowship and fun together. All men are encouraged to bake a cake, pie or other “goodies” to be “judged” and then eaten. After the refreshments we will enjoy a lively game of Family Feud which is always a lot of fun. These Super Sumer Sunday Nights would be a great time to invite friends and family to join you at FBC Carthage.
7. Be praying for the upcoming mission teams as they travel:
Mission to New York June 29-July 4
This team will be working with Jim and Karen Wilburn and the North Shores Baptist Church on Long Island, New York.
Mission Montana July 15-22
This team will be joining with a team from Alabama to work a ministry booth at the Pow Wow in Poplar, Montana. They will be ministering to hundreds of Native Americans throughout this four day event. Pastor Vance Thomas and his wife Kathy of the First Baptist Church in Poplar, Montana will be helping coordinate this ministry.
8. Speaking of Jim Wilburn, Saturday, June 20th is his birthday. Take a minute and send him a note wishing him a happy birthday. His e-mail address is: wilburn.jim@gmail.com
His mailing address is:

9. The next big community mission project will be the Smith County Fair which is scheduled for July 27 through August 1. We will have ministry teams for each night with face painting, balloon animals, witnessing and water distribution. Be making your plans to be part of this mission team to the people of Smith County.
10. Lighthouse Christian Camp is still in need of counselors and helpers for their summer camps. If you have a week, or even a morning, to serve call Mike Kilgore at 931 529-0683.
