FBC Carthage E-News
February 2, 2009
Good Morning and Happy Groundhog’s Day,
Whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not, I am sure the people in Kentucky and Indiana will be glad when this winter is over. Let us be praying for those suffering without power as they work through the damage during this week. I am inquiring about ministry/mission opportunities that may be available for us to help. If you hear of needs let me know.
Speaking of responding to needs, the Tennessee Baptist Convention Disaster Relief Ministry is a great way to be involved in meeting immediate needs. I wonder if there are members of First Baptist who have been through the training with the Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief. To work with them you have to have some of the basic training courses they offer throughout the state. E-mail me at tfrank@fbccarthage.com . For those who have not been trained I will see if we can get a training class offered in this area.
For those in the evening service last night, thank you for extending a warm welcome to the “pulpit committee” from Cookeville. That group of ladies are one of the Sunday School classes at Stevens Street and they have a great time together. Their trip last night was their class’ “Super Bowl Fellowship”. Each class was asked to have a special event and join together for fellowship last night and their event was coming to visit FBC Carthage. Sunday School can be so much more than an hour on Sunday morning. It is about relationships, friendships and ministering to one another. This would be a great month for your class to plan an event to enjoy being together. That is part of our emphasis on “Establishing Connections”.
During the month of February we are encouraging individuals, families, Sunday School classes and other groups within the church to participate in acts of kindness to people in our community. Yesterday the GA’s took blankets and cards they had made to some of the homebound and senior adult members of FBC Carthage. You may have a neighbor who needs their leaves raked or their gutters cleaned. There may be someone who you could stop by and encourage with a visit. Maybe take a meal to a sick friend. The ways we can express kindness are unlimited. As we do a kind deed let’s remember to express the compassion of Jesus Christ. The greatest kindness you can do for another person is to tell them the good news about Jesus.
Have a blessed week as you are a blessing to others,
Bro. Tim
