First Baptist Church
Carthage, Tennessee
E-News for September 2, 2008
Good Morning,
I trust you have had a safe and enjoyable Labor Day. As the last official holiday of summer, there is a always a sense of excitement in my spirit as we enter the fall season. Cooler weather, holidays, and fall activities make this my favorite time of the year.
Speaking of exciting, we had an exciting day on Sunday with five people joining the church and four of them coming by baptism. We welcome Jane Ann, Casey, Hunter and Tanner Hackett and Fran St. Andrews as our newest members. Pray for these people this week and as you see them out say a word of welcome to them.
The video I used Sunday at the close of the message can be viewed on God Tube by clicking on this link: http://www.godtube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=3a0175c544b72e4861b9
You may want to check out other videos on this web site. They are more honoring to the Lord Jesus Christ than You Tube or other video sharing sites. You still need to use discernment on sites you view.
The web site now has audio files of sermons from FBC Carthage. The series “Four Things Every Member Needs to Know” is available and we hope other messages will be soon. Click on the Media link on the church web site: www.fbccarthage.com
Also on the Media page is a slide show of the stained glass windows in the sanctuary. If you have not taken the time to look at the windows and consider the biblical stories they represent, this is a good opportunity. If you have suggestions on how we can improve the church web site or would have interest in helping with this growing ministry please contact me at tfrank@fbccarthage.com.
Take a few minutes to read through the news notes, especially those dealing with the Sunday School emphasis during the month of September. Have a blessed week and I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday and next Sunday.
Your Pastor,
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. This Wednesday, September 3 we are blessed to have one of our Southern Baptist missionaries and one of my dear friends share of his work in Russia. Kenny and Melissa Stevens and their three children were members of Stevens Street Baptist Church in Cookeville and now serve with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board in Siberia, Russia. Kenny will share in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 PM.
2. Power Up Your Sunday School
“Power Up Your Sunday School” will be the emphasis for the month of September. I have attached an abbreviated schedule for this emphasis. I am asking every member to be in Sunday School during this month. Sunday School is a strategic part of our work here at FBC Carthage as we exalt Christ, establish connections, and express compassion. The Sunday School provides the avenue through which we can systematically do all three objectives. Be in Sunday School this Sunday. Better yet, invite a friend to attend Sunday School with you this Sunday. Here’s the schedule for the month:
Power Up Schedule
September 7 Round Up Sunday – Promotion Sunday
Pray for lost and unchurched persons
The Power of Prayer – Sermon Theme
September 14 Pray for lost and unchurched persons
The Power of Community – Sermon Theme
September 21 Pray for lost and unchurched persons
The Power of One – Sermon Theme
Everyone is to invite and bring at least one person next week
September 28 High Attendance Day in Sunday School
Pray for lost and unchurched persons
Evangelist John Nix in Morning and Evening Services
Two Morning Worship Services this Sunday 8:15 & 10:45 AM
The emphasis will focus on praying for lost and unchurched friends, neighbors, and family members. In addition, it will draw attention to the importance of our relationships in the Sunday School class the impact we can each make in the lives of others as we bring them to Jesus. The emphasis will conclude with a special day on September 28. Evangelist John Nix from the Memphis area will be preaching and we will offer two services that Sunday morning to provide additional space for you to bring people with you to Sunday School and worship. This is going to be a fantastic month of emphasizing the importance of our Sunday School.
3. The 5th Quarter held this past Friday night had 163 young people who signed in at the register. It is thrilling to see that many students and to realize the potential we have to reach this generation for Jesus Christ. Pray for an open door and the courage to step through as that door opens.
4. Continue to pray for our college students. My daughter Jill Frank will begin her sophomore year at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee next Monday. If you have students in college I am compiling a list and e-mail addresses to stay in touch with them while they are away at school. Simply send their e-mail address to me at tfrank@fbccarthage.com. Also, I plan to visit on the campuses during this semester with our students and their friends.
5. This next week is the Week of Prayer for State Missions. Our goal is $2000. We will receive this offering for the next couple of Sundays. Plan to make an offering over and above your regular tithe offerings for missions. For more information check out the TBC web site at: http://www.tnbaptist.org/page.asp?page=127
6. Sunday, September 7 is Grandparents’ Day and we will recognize all grandparents in the congregation. This would be a great weekend for you to call and invite all your grandchildren to come see you and attend Sunday School and worship with you at FBC Carthage.
7. The annual church picnic will be held on Sunday, September 14 at the Defeated Creek Park pavilion. We will gather around 3:00 PM for fun and games and plan to eat at 5:30 PM. The supper meal is covered dish so bring a dish or two to share with everyone.
