e-News for FBC Carthage
July 21, 2008
Good Morning,
This has been an exciting weekend as I had opportunity to travel with the youth to the Ocoee River for a whitewater rafting adventure. I hope to have a few pictures posted on the church web site soon. In addition to a lot of fun, the trip allowed me to get to know several of the youth and parents a little better. I also found out which of the guys snore.
The “Sing-spiration” was a great blessing last night and the ice-cream was delicious. One of my favorite songs was Jim’s “Chrome Fish.” That may have to be a sermon series one of these days. Thanks to everyone who brought ice cream and baked goodies. A special thanks also to those who sang and played instruments to the glory of God.
Now for the weekly house update: We are getting ready for the drywall in the upstairs and kitchen. The electric, plumbing, and HVAC are roughed in and ready for the drywall. Our kitchen cabinets are scheduled to be in August 4. These next two weeks will make a big difference in the house. Thanks to those who have brought by food or invited us to dinner this week.
Have a blessed week and I’ll see you at FBC Carthage.
Your Pastor,
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news:
1. The sign-up is going well for the FBC Carthage booth at the Smith County Fair. We will have an information/training meeting this Wednesday, July 23 at 7:30PM in Fellowship Hall after the evening service. We’ll talk about the various parts of the ministry at the booth and demonstrate how to use a special witness tool called the “Evangel Cube.” A schedule of those helping in the booth is at the end of this e-News.
2. In anticipation of the fair ministry and the beginning of the school year the Great Passage we will share Sunday, July 27 will be Matthew 5:13-16, “You Are the LIGHT of the World.”
3. This Sunday evening, July 27, will be the last of our Super Summer Sunday Nights. We will meet at 5:00 PM for a cookout, softball and service at Crump Paris Park.
4. During the July Business Meeting the church discussed and approved a change in the Sunday Evening Worship schedule to begin August 10 at 5:30 PM. The benefits of this schedule will be:
· Correspond to starting time of Awana Classes for children.
· Provide time after services for fellowship and discussion.
· Provide an earlier dismissal time during the Fall and Winter.
· Provide heightened emphasis for the Sunday Evening services.
5. Teachers and workers are needed in the Awana as they look toward a new semester starting August 10. For more information contact John Etheridge at 735-1959. A training class for all workers will be held Saturday, August 9 at 9:00 AM.
6. For those not involved in the Awana Training on Saturday, August 9, our church will be working with other area churches in the Hispanic Socceer Outreach and Cookout at Crump Paris Park. This will be a great joint effort with the Hispanic Church which meets on Friday nights at FBC Carthage.
7. Make sure you have these training events on your calendar:
August 9 Awana Leaders Training
August 11 Deacon Training at FBC Gordonsville
August 18 Sunday School Teacher Training@ FBC Cookeville
8. This e-News will be posted each week along with additional articles on Bro. Tim’s blog www.ontheword.blogspot.com.
