FBC Carthage E-News for October 3, 2022

FBC Carthage E-News

October 3, 2022

Good Morning,

As we see the images of devastation and destruction left from Hurricane Ian, our hearts and prayers go out to the people in Florida and along the coast who have had such loss.  We want to reach out and do something to help.  We can.  The Tennessee Baptist Mission Board has a ministry arm called Disaster Relief made up of men and women from across our state.  These volunteers go to the hard hit areas and help with practical needs like chainsaw, showers, laundry, clean-up, and hot meals.  Disaster Relief workers serve in the name of Jesus to help the hurting.  Through our gifts to the Cooperative Program, Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions, and direct offering to Disaster Relief, we help provide the resources and supplies the volunteers use in meeting the needs.  We are receiving a special offering for the clean-up and rebuilding from Hurricane Ian.  Simply mark your envelope and/or check for Disaster Relief.  Check out this video on the work of Tennessee Baptists through Disaster Relief:  https://vimeo.com/729692181

Plans are being made for this year’s Trunk-or-Treat with the theme  “Bible Stories.”  The cars and families will decorate and dress up to depict various Bible stories.  The Trunk-or-Treat will  be on Wednesday, October 26 at 5:30 PM.  To sign-up for a Bible story, see Kristen Sanders.  Another way we can all be involved is by bringing candy to give away and put it in the collection bins in the Connection Point.

The Young at Heart, our ministry / fellowship group of adults 55+,  will have lunch together next Tuesday, October 11.  We will meet in the Bus parking lot at 11:00 AM and travel to Hartsville for lunch at Farmer’s Harvest Restaurant.  Invite a friend and plan to travel with us for lunch.

The Women on Missions will sponsor a Parents Night out for the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home on Saturday, November 12 in Franklin, Tennessee.  We will leave from the church at 3:30 PM and have supper, games, crafts, and a devotion with the children at the Children’s Home.  For more information and to sign up to help, contact Melody Tackett or Bro. Tim.

There will be a planning meeting for the Coats for the City / New York City Mission Team this Sunday, October 9 immediately following the morning service.  We will discuss plans for the work and details for the trip, including cost.  For more information simply attend this planning meeting or contact Bro. Tim.

It is a joy to welcome Dan Hagar as he comes for membership in FBC Carthage through the transfer of his letter.  If you are considering membership or would like more information on the church, the next Discover FBC Carthage luncheon will be Sunday, October 23 immediately following the morning service.  You can also see Bro. Tim or Pastor Paul for information.

Welcome to the New Testament.  After nine months of reading through the Old Testament it is a blessing to begin the journey through the New Testament.  The Bible Pathways for October are available in the Connection Point and front foyer.  You can also find them online and as a daily e-mail to your Inbox at:  https://www.crosswalk.com/devotionals/biblepathways/

The RightNowMedia Video Series for this week is “Divided We Stand.”  How do you love people when you disagree with them?  We live in divided times. The tension of disagreement can be felt at dinner tables, in board rooms, at church gatherings, and in our communities. It can be hard to know how to engage with each other when the gap between us feels like it’s widening.  Jesus lived in divided times, too. He modeled for us what it looks like to love your enemies, to love across political, gender, religious, and cultural lines. Jesus’s life was marked by loving people who were wildly different from him, and he calls us to do the same.
