FBC Carthage E-News for November 30, 2020

 FBC Carthage E-News

November 30, 2020

‘Tis the Season!  Christmas 2020 is in full swing as decorations are going up, presents are being ordered, and plans are being made.  In the midst of all the hustle and bustle of this season, make sure to prepare your heart and mind for the true purpose of Christmas, the celebration of Jesus’ birth.  There are several events and emphases in this E-News that will help you “keep Christ in Christmas.”   Even in the COVID pandemic, may this be your best Christmas ever as you share with others to hope, joy, and peace that comes in Jesus Christ.

The Carthage Christmas Parade has been postponed to this Tuesday, December 1 at 6:30 PM.  We will be serving coffee and hot chocolate on the front yard of the church.  If you would like to help, we will meet at 5:30 PM in the Christian Life Center to get ready.   Join us in the church yard as we serve the community and celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Speaking of volunteering, the Lighthouse Christian Camp Christmas Parties will be the next two Saturdays, December 5 for girls and December 12 for boys from 9:30AM-3:00 PM.  Lighthouse is located in Smithville, Tennessee.  Volunteers can go to https://lighthousechristiancamp.com/ to sign-up to help.  For more information contact Bro. Tim.

Attention YOUTH!  The Big News of the week is the moving of Youth Worship to Sunday nights at 6:00 PM in the Youth Room.  The Wednesday night event will move to a Virtual format.  Having the Big Event on Sunday nights will be an opportunity to invite more of your friends without the conflict with sports and other activities.  To be a part of the Kick-off this Sunday, December 6 at 6:00 PM in the Youth Room.  Adults, just a reminder and invitation for you to join us for the Sunday Evening Services at 6:00 PM in the Sanctuary.

Grief at any season of life is difficult.  During the Christmas season it is even more challenging.  We will offer a special “Surviving the Holidays” session of GriefShare this Sunday afternoon from 3:00 – 4:30 PM.  To register for this workshop, go to https://www.griefshare.org/holidays/events/36262

A special Christmas project is “aCross Tennessee.”  The idea is to place a lighted cross in your yard as a visual reminder that Christmas is about Jesus whose purpose was to be crucified on a cross for our sins.  The purpose of the manger was the cross.  That is why Jesus came.  The power of the cross is in the manger.  Jesus was not just an ordinary baby.  He was the literal, one and only, begotten Son of God.  To join this lighted cross ministry, simply put up your lighted cross, light it through December 31, and register it at www.acrosstenn.com .  Let’s fill the night with light from the cross of Jesus.

One of the new tools to come out of the COVID-19 pandemic for our church is electronic giving through text.  We have three offerings you can make through this means.  You simply text the Keyword for the specific account to 1 (615) 492-8661.  The Keywords are:

OFFERING          for the General Church Budget Giving

LOTTIE for the International Mission Offering

LIFE for the Pregnancy Help Center

The Church Council will meet Sunday, December 5 at 4:45 PM in the Christian Life Center.

The Deacons will meet this Sunday, December 5 at 7:00 PM in the Christian Life Center.

During this Christmas season, there will be many special events and gatherings.  If you are wishing to reserve the Christian Life Center for a gathering or activity, contact the Church Office to check availability.  Call Deborah Weaver, Church Secretary, at (615) 735-1929.

The Right Now Video of the week is “Advent.”  The Christmas story, or Advent, is more than a sentimental myth or a quiet manger scene we use to decorate our living rooms. The Christmas story is the good news of God entering into our darkness. Join J.D. Greear in this four-session series as he takes a deeper look at Jesus as Emmanuel, our Wonderful Counselor, the Everlasting Father, and the great I Am. When you know Jesus, you will realize Christmas is more than a nice story—the arrival of Jesus changes everything.  Check it out:
