E-News for FBC Carthage February 28, 2022

 FBC Carthage E-News

February 28, 2022

As the world watches the situation in the Ukraine, let us pray for the peoples of that country.  Facebook is full of many calls to pray for the Christians in Ukraine and for the country, in general.  This is a time we need to pray for the Lord to rule and bring peace in the lives of the leaders and the people.  We need to pray for our nation and leaders as we strategically choose the right response to Russia.  The world seems to be a very small place in the midst of conflict and war.  You may ask,  “What can we do to make a difference?”  We can pray.

Thank you to all who came out Saturday and helped in the church work day.  We had several areas cleaned up and cleaned out.  It is always amazing how much things accumulate in the closets and storage areas.  There are several additional areas that need attention if you have time to volunteer.  See Paul or Bro. Tim to help.

The Sanctuary Choir had its organizational/informational meeting this past Sunday and plans are under way to begin rehearsals this Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 PM.  Wednesday Night Meals serve from 5:00-6:00 PM.  Bible Study and Prayer Time is from 6:30-7:30 PM.  Choir follows at 7:30 PM.  Everyone is invited to be a part of the choir as they lead in worship each Sunday.

President’s Day is a holiday for many today.  Schools, banks, and other businesses are closed.  It is a day to remember the Presidents who have served before, especially George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  It is also a good day to pray for our present President, Joe Biden.  Pray for divine wisdom and direction.  Pray for him as our President, regardless of your political thoughts.  Our nation desperately needs Godly leaders, starting with the President.

The RightNow Media Video series of the week is “The 7 Challenges Men Encounter.”   Daily it's getting more challenging to be a man. Our present culture is redefining manhood and confusing men in their pursuit of Biblical manhood. But how will you respond? What will you say and do when the world demands a response? Discover how to respond by rejecting passivity, accepting responsibility, leading courageously, loving unconditionally, living with integrity, serving humbly, and investing eternally. Let others see masculinity and manhood through the lens of Christ in your life with these seven characteristics and become a better man, husband, father, and leader.  Check out the trailer:  https://app.rightnowmedia.org/en/player/video/371860?session=371872

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today there will be millions of expressions of love and goodwill as we celebrate Valentine’s Day.  As you share with those around you today, remind them that God loves them and that you love them too.  As Believers in Jesus Christ, the one commandment He gave us is found in John 13:34.  That one commandment is to love one another.  That is to be our defining characteristic.  Unfortunately, many people would characterize Christians exactly the opposite.  Too often the world sees us as hateful and mean spirited.  May we learn to express our love and compassion for people more than we express our hatred for their sin.  The Apostle Paul shared the concept in Ephesians 4:15 as he wrote, “speaking the truth in love.”  Happy Valentine’s Day.  God loves you and so do I.

Please continue to pray for the Pregnancy Help Center as we interview several prospective candidates for the Director’s position this week.

I am delighted to announce three men have been selected to serve as deacons of First Baptist Church.  They are Grant Denney, Joe Vining, and Jerimiah Wilkerson.  We will plan an Ordination Service in March as we set them aside for service to the church.  Please pray for these three men and their families.

 FBC Carthage E-News

February 7, 2022

Good Morning,

Thank you for your continued prayers and concern for me and my family in this bout with Covid.  We are all doing much better and hopefully are moving in the right direction.  There are many others in our community struggling with it so let’s continue to pray for one another.

As we work to move back into a full ministry schedule, I remind you of the importance of the Sunday School classes each Sunday morning at 9:00 AM.  Sunday School is the way we are organized to provide discipleship, ministry, outreach, and care to every age group in the church.  There is a class for everyone, from the babies to the Senior Adults.  If you have been missing in Sunday School through the pandemic, I encourage you to come and be in Sunday School agai.  If you have never attended Sunday School, come and experience the community and connection that happens in the classes.  It is worth the extra effort to come an hour early to be in a Sunday School class.  Try it this Sunday.

Please pray for the Pregnancy Help Center as we seek a new Part-Time Director to carry on the vision and work of the Center.  We have had a great response and interest in the position.  15 people have made inquiries and four have submitted applications.  If you or someone you know are interested, please go to https://www.phcsmithcounty.org/director for an application, job description, and statement of faith.  We will begin the selection process on Monday, February 14.

Attention Ladies:

·        The Women on Missions meeting will be next Monday, February 7 at 6:30 PM in the Christian Life Center.  All ladies are invited.

·        The Sew-n-Sews are beginning a new year of sewing for the Operation Christmas Child gifts beginning Thursday, February 10 at 9:00 AM in the Christian Life Center.

Attention Men:

The Smith County Men’s Conference will be held March 18 and 19 at the Ag Center.  We will have a wild game dinner on Friday night and breakfast on Saturday.  Both sessions will have inspirational speakers and special music.  Door prizes will be given away from local businesses.  Invite a friend to attend with you.  More information in coming weeks.

Be watching for two exciting ministries starting back up soon;

·        Weekly Youth Group meetings on Wednesday evenings

·        An interest meeting of the Worship Ministry Team (Choir) as we look to begin weekly rehearsals and preparation for Sunday worship.

FBC Carthage E-news for January 31, 2022

FBC Carthage E-News

January 31, 2022

Good Morning,

I appreciate the prayers and concern for me and my family during this time of Covid.  First the grandchildren, then Fran positive, and Sunday morning I tested positive.  I am thankful that we have all had fairly mild cases so far.  It has been a difficult time of quarantine and now isolation from everyone.  My goal is to be cleared to be back this coming Sunday, but we will have to wait and see.

In the meantime, Pastor Paul has done an outstanding job of preaching and leading in my absence.  The message yesterday morning was his best message yet.  If you didn’t hear the message “Joy In Your Circumstances,” you will be blessed to go to Youtube or Facebook and listen.  I also appreciate Bro. Marty Dodge and his willingness to fill in when I am out.  His message last night was very encouraging to be strong and courageous in the midst of challenges of life.  The Lord used both messages yesterday to encourage and uplift my soul.

I ask you to continue to pray for our community, state, and nation as we experience so many  cases of COVID.  Dr. Roger Duke, our local COVID Task Force Leader, shared with me yesterday that Smith County has recently set the record for active cases since the pandemic began.  There are so many families dealing with this latest outbreak of COVID.  Let’s be praying for each other as we continue to walk through this pandemic.

Thank you for the offering and response to our Baby Bottle emphasis for the Pregnancy Help Center.  It is a blessing to partner with this local ministry that touches the lives of women, children, and families.  If you still have a baby bottle of coins, cash, or checks you can bring it with you this Sunday.  All bottles are asked to be returned by Sunday, February 13.  I also remind you to pray for the Pregnancy Help Center as we seek a new Part-Time Director to carry on the vision and work of the Center.  If you or someone you know are interested, please go to https://www.phcsmithcounty.org/director for an application, job description, and statement of faith.

·        The Sew-n-Sews are beginning a new year of sewing for the Operation Christmas Child gifts beginning Thursday, February 10 at 9:00 AM in the Christian Life Center.

Be watching for two exciting ministries starting back up in February.  Soon our weekly Youth Group will begin meetings on Wednesday evenings through the direction of Pastor Paul and the Youth Leadership Team.  Also, be watching for an interest meeting of the Worship Ministry Team (Choir) as we look to begin weekly rehearsals and preparation for Sunday worship.

FBC Carthage E-News for January 10, 2022

FBC Carthage E-News

January 10, 2022

Good Morning,

January is the month of beginning and with that we have three specific emphases throughout the month.  First, January is Sanctity of Life month as we stand for the sanctity of every human life.  This is a momentous issue facing our nation, especially this year as the Supreme Court considers a case which may roll back decades of assault on the most innocent of human life, the baby in the womb.  We also highlight the work and ministry of the Pregnancy Help Center as they minister to moms, families, and their children.  We will receive a special offering with baby bottles for you to fill with coins, bills, or checks and a special offering for the Center on January 30.

January is the start of our year-long adventure as we Read the Bible Through in 2022.  This year we will provide the Bible Pathways Devotional Guides each month as a plan to follow.  We will also list the daily readings each week in the bulletin and E-News.  Take the challenge..  Read the entire Bible through in 2022.  We are less than two weeks into the plan.  Start where we are and catch-up with a few additional readings.  The Bible Pathways for January are available in the Connection Point and front foyer.  You can also find them online and as a daily e-mail to your Inbox at:  https://www.crosswalk.com/devotionals/biblepathways/

Here are the last readings for January 10-17, 2022:

January 10        Genesis 28-30

January 11        Genesis 31-33

January 12        Genesis 34-36

January 13        Genesis 37-39

January 14        Genesis 40-42

January 15        Genesis 43-45

January 16        Genesis 46-48

January 17        Genesis 49-50

One final emphasis in January is “Make/Review Your Will” month.  Having an up-to-date will is part of our Christian stewardship as we manage what the Lord has entrusted to us.  A will gives opportunity for you to care for your family and limit disagreements and in-fighting over the inheritance.  There is nothing honoring to the Lord or to your deceased loved one when families fight and break apart.  A will allows parents to determine who will raise and care for their children in the case of their deaths.  A will is an important tool in your estate planning and needs to be reviewed and updated as needed.

AWANA had a great start for the semester on Sunday evening.  AWANA is our discipleship  for preschool, children, and youth.  The classes meet each Sunday evening at 5:30 PM in the Christian Life Center.   Parents, bring your children as they learn Scripture memory and Bible stories as well as having a lot of fun and enjoying a delicious supper.  Sunday Evening Worship for adults begins at 6:00 PM and is presently studying through the book of Proverbs in a series titled, “Get Wisdom.”  Make FBC Carthage the Sunday Night Place.

The Church-wide Business Meeting will be Wednesday, January 12 at 6:30 PM in the Sanctuary.

A new semester of GriefShare, our 13-week Grief Support Group, will begin on Tuesday, January 11 at 6:00 PM at the Smith County Chamber of Commerce, 939 Upper Ferry Road.  This support group is for everyone who is working through the grief of losing a loved one.  There is no cost to the participants for this group through the generous support of Sanderson Funeral Home and Bass Funeral Home.

The RightNow Media Video series of the week is “1 Peter.”  We are studying this book on Wednesday Night Bible Study at 6:30 PM.  You can use this video series as a study tool to help you unpack the great truths from this book in the Bible.  In this series, Pastor Kyle Idleman walks through the short letter and unpacks the importance of our witness in this world.   Check out this 2-minute trailer:  https://app.rightnowmedia.org/en/player/video/289495?session=315919

FBC Carthage E-News

December 27, 2021

Happy New Year!

This is the week many people spend in reflection of the past year and preparation for the upcoming year.  It is always good to look back for perspective and evaluation.  It is also good to look forward in anticipation and planning.  I encourage you as I encourage myself to both reflect on and anticipate the things God has done, is doing, and will do.  It’s a brand new year to live for Jesus.  In fact, the challenge for 2022 is to live as if this would be the year you see Jesus.  Those things you sense the Lord leading you to do, do it for His honor and glory.  May this be the greatest year of ministry, mission, and discipleship for you personally and for our church collectively.  Happy New Year!

One of the annual emphasis for FBC Carthage has been to Read the Bible Through.  This year we will provide the Bible Pathways Devotional Guides each month as a plan to follow.  We will also list the daily readings each week in the bulletin and E-News.  Take the challenge..  Read the entire Bible through in 2022.  The Bible Pathways for January are available in the Connection Point and front foyer.  You can also find them online and as a daily e-mail to your Inbox at:  https://www.crosswalk.com/devotionals/biblepathways/

The RightNow Media Video series of the week is “Unlocking the Mysteries of Genesis.”   This series presents evidence for the biblical account of creation from a young-earth perspective, and offers defensible answers to some of the most provocative and controversial questions of faith and science. How did life begin? Where did humans come from? Was Noah’s Flood real? How old is the earth?  In each dynamic 22-minute episode, host Markus Lloyd guides the viewer on a memorable journey through some of the most fascinating topics in creation science. Developed by the Institute for Creation Research, one of the world’s leading creation research organizations, this outstanding series provides an engaging exploration of creation science like never before.
