Happy Fall Break!

This week is Fall Break for students in Smith County schools.  Pray for a restful, enjoyable, and safe week for students, parents, teachers, and administrators.  2020 has been a difficult year in our education system.  All involved continue to need our support and prayers.

Early voting continues this week at the Smith County Election Office in the Turner Building, starting Wednesday, October 14.  Times will be Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm and Saturdays from 8am-12 noon.  For more information, contact the Election Commission at (615) 735-8241.  Election Day will be Tuesday, November 3.  Be praying for this historic election and for God’s will to be done.

Tuesday mornings from 7:00-7:30 AM we are having a special time of prayer for our nation and the many needs in our lives.  Join us in the Sanctuary as we pray and call out to God during this uncertain time.

Trunk or Treat will be next Wednesday, October 28 and we will be doing things a little differently.  Due to COVID-19 we will do a drive through Trunk of Treat down Fite Avenue.  Candy and a sack supper will be distributed in this drive-through event.  If you would like to help with this fun event contact Matt or Elizabeth Davis.  You can also bring bags of candy to the Connection Point to donate for the children.

Due to COVID concerns, the Fall semester of GriefShare has been canceled.  We will plan to resume this grief support ministry in January 2021.  If you would be interested in being part of an online group, contact Bro. Tim or call the church office at (615) 735-1929.

We are collecting winter coats for the annual coat give-away through our partner church in New York City.  You can bring coats to the Connection Point or contact the church office for shipping information to ship new coats directly to Bridge Community Church in New York.

We continue to provide access to online giving by texting the word GIVE to 1-(615) 492-8661.  The first time you use the electronic giving, you will enter your giving information.  After that, you simply enter the offering you wish to make.

Here are two upcoming events that benefit our ministry partners to which you are invited:

·        The Baptist Collegiate Ministry at Tennessee Tech is having a Fundraising Open House of their new building on Friday, October 30.  The BCM is located at 106 W. 7th Street, Cookeville, Tennessee.  Go to tntechbcm.com to register for a tour group.  Times begin at 4:00 PM and cycle every 30 minutes.

·        The Pregnancy Help Center Banquet will be held on Thursday, November 5, 6:00 PM at the Smith County Ag Center.  Our church will be preparing and serving the meal that evening.  We need additional people to attend this important banquet which benefits the Pregnancy Help Center.  To sign-up, contact Tim Frank or call the church office at (615) 735-1929.

The Right Now Video of the week is “Fire and Faithfulness” with Sadie Robertson Huff, (daughter of the Duck Dynasty family.)  We live in a world that doesn’t care what God wants. Sure, they may not say it that way, but the messages that parade across social media declare that God’s way just isn’t worth it. But as Christians, we’re committed to following Jesus in every aspect of our lives. Is it possible to live—or maybe even thrive—as a believer in our world today?  In this four-session video series, discover the lost art of faithfulness in the face of a world that wants nothing to do with God. Trek through the story of four young Israelites who, when ripped from their homes, faced a choice: remain faithful followers in a foreign land, or bow before an empire that hated God.

There are many in our congregation and families to be praying for today.  Two specific prayer requests are for Angela Powell as she makes small steps of improvement.  A Meal Train has been set up on the First Baptist Church Carthage Facebook page for the Powells.  Also, pray for David Robinson at Vanderbilt Hospital following a tree stand accident yesterday.   More details and updates will be posted on the Prayer Chain.

To be added to the Prayer Chain, text “Prayer Chain” and your Name to (931) 261-8452.
