FBC Carthage E-News
May 14, 2018
Good Morning,
Plans are being finalized
for the mission trip to Atlanta, Georgia to work with Kewon Foster and Out of
Love Ministries. Mission team members are needed for the mission trip on
May 25-26. The project we will be a part
of is a community outreach to several housing complexes in their area through
an Ice Cream party. As we serve ice
cream to the people and have games with the children, we will also be sharing
the love and Jesus and helping the church build relationships. This two day mission trip will be a fun way
to serve with one of our mission partners in the city of Atlanta. The cost will be $25 to cover the lodging for
one night. See Bro. Tim or Bro. Matt
this week if you are planning to be a part of this trip.
A small team is
needed for a mission project in Wolf Point, Montana. The project will be July 16-21. We will be helping with a Vacation Bible
School at the First Baptist Church in Wolf Point and a Backyard Bible Club in the
neighboring community of Vida. In
addition, we will have a couple of hands-on projects including placing a
steeple on the church building. We will
meet this Sunday, May 20 at 4:30 PM in the Sanctuary to discuss the work and
travel plans. Those interested in being
on this team are asked to attend.
In response to the recent
volcanic eruptions and evacuations of hundreds of people on the island of
Hawaii, we will receive a special offering this Sunday, May 20 for Ohana Church
as they serve those affected by this disaster.
Bro. Zeke Tomaselli is the pastor of Ohana Church.
This week is the local
high school graduations with Gordonsville on Friday evening and Smith County on
Saturday morning. Remember to pray for our graduates in this important week of
their lives. Here is a list of our
graduates:

“Game On!” is our 2018
summer mission theme as well as the theme for our Vacation Bible School, June
11-15. The FBC Carthage Summer 2018
T-Shirts are in and you can pick up one in the Connection Point. Pick up your shirt this Sunday and wear it on
mission projects, VBS, picnics, and as a general publicity for the church. It’s time to get in the game, give it our
all, and do our best to serve and share Christ with those around us. The focal passage is 2 Peter 1:3 which says, “His
divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and
godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and
virtue.” The motto is “Gearing up for
life’s big game.” May this be our
greatest Summer ever as we serve and share Jesus. It’s “Game On!”
Speaking of Vacation
Bible School (June 11-15), we will be studying the scripture lessons from this
Summer’s Vacation Bible School on Wednesday nights in May. I always enjoy walking through these passages
the teachers will be teaching the children and youth. In addition to studying the scriptures, this
helps the teachers have a “head-start” in their lesson preparation. Join us this week as we study together.
A list of Vacation Bible
School workers can be found at the end of this E-News. If you would like to serve in an area or a
specific class please contact Jan Trainham, Tina Gatenbein, or see Bro. Tim or
Bro. Matt.
We received a special
offering in the service yesterday for the work of the Tennessee Baptist
Children’s Homes. This Mother’s Day
Offering is a major funding for the work on the three campuses. For more information on the Tennessee Baptist
Children Homes, visit them online at: http://tennesseechildren.org/
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
Here is the news for the
week:
·
Help spread the
news! A One-Day Revival will be held on
Sunday, June 3 in both the 10:45 AM and 6:00 PM services with Evangelist Phil
Glisson. Everyone is asked to invite at
least one person as your guest on that Sunday.
The emphasis is called “Invite Your One.” Be thinking of someone you can invite for
this special day.
·
There will be a
church-wide, covered dish luncheon on Revival Sunday, June 3 immediately
following the service. Bring a dish and
invite your friend to stay for lunch. We
will also be celebrating Bro. Tim’s 10th anniversary at the
luncheon.
·
In preparation for the One Day Revival, June 3 and Vacation Bible School
the following week, June 11-15, we will have a month of outreach to our
community on Tuesday afternoons in May.
Each Tuesday in May, from 5:30-7:00 PM, we will go out and distribute invitations
to our neighbors and friends. Join us
for this “visitation blitz” as we invite people to these two special events.
·
This Sunday night, May 20 at 6:00 PM we will conclude our showing of the
documentary, “Alien Intrusion.” If you
have ever wondered about the subject of aliens from a galaxy far away, come
this Sunday night. As they say in the
movie, “The truth may be stranger than you can imagine.” Check out the trailer at: http://www.alienintrusion.com/

This Wednesday, May 16 will be the final Wednesday Night Meal before our
Summer Break. Thank you to the cooking

We have four
members of FBC Carthage making preparations for the New Salem Association’s

Homes and yards
are needed for Backyard Bible Clubs all around Smith County. This year we are asking for people to host a
Backyard Bible Club for your neighborhood children. These clubs may be 4-8 weeks long and we will
have Bible stories, craft ideas, and other information for you. If you are willing to reach out in your
neighborhood contact Bro. Tim or Bro. Matt.
