November 12, 2012
Good Morning,
The Thanksgiving Season is upon us as we enjoyed a great meal and service last night with the Smith County Ministerial Thanksgiving Service and look forward to our church’s Thanksgiving Meal and Service this coming Sunday, November 18. Everyone is invited and asked to bring a covered dish for this special meal together. The Meal will begin at 5:30 PM.
During this time, we want to take time to remember all for which we have to be thankful. This would be a great week to make a Thanksgiving List 2012 and write down the many blessings you have received this past year. Use that list as a guide and reminder to pray and thank the Lord for His goodness, mercy, grace, and faithfulness.
We salute our veterans and are thankful for your service to our country. Yesterday was a good reminder in all the services of the importance of the role the military has played in our nation. We say, “Thank You.” If you know a person in the military, this would be a great week to send them a note and let them know you are praying for them and thank them for their service.
This is also the time for collecting gifts for three Christmas events. Those three special events are:
· The AWANA Family Christmas Celebration will be held on Sunday, December 2 at 5:00 PM in the Christian Life Center. Everyone will join together for this event as we celebrate the Christmas season with our children.
· The Lighthouse Christian Camp Christmas Parties will be Saturday, December 1 for girls and Saturday, December 8 for boys. There are gift tags at the displays in the foyer and Connection Point that will give you a description of the person for whom you are buying the gift. The Lighthouse Christmas Parties are also a great seasonal mission activity for individuals and classes. Many volunteers are needed to help with the days activities for the 800+ children who will come.
· The Smith County Help Center’s Toyland provides gifts for needy families in Smith County. We are partners with the Help Center and see them as a great resource in ministry to families in our area.
All gifts are needed by Sunday, November 25 to get them to the different ministry partners. Please do not wrap the gifts.
This Thursday is a special day for prayer as the Gideons distribute New Testaments in the 5th Grade classes in Smith County. Pray for this ministry as the boys and girls receive the scriptures.
This is an exciting time of the year. The Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons are the favorite for many people. In all the hustle and bustle, take time to remember the reasons we celebrate: our thankfulness to God for His blessings and the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
1. We welcome Michael Bane and Kristin Ralph as they came yesterday for church membership. Michael was baptized at the end of the second service and Kirstin comes by letter. Pray for them as they are married this coming Friday. They will be presented for membership during the next business meeting.
2. Our Fall Revival will be Sunday through Wednesday, September 25-28 at 7:00 PM each evening in the Ag Center. Bro. Bob Pitman will be the evangelist with Mark Cruthers as the worship leader. Be asking family and friends to attend these services with you each evening.
3. The Tennessee Baptist Convention is being held this week in Bartlett, Tennessee. Pray for our messengers: Bro. Tim Frank, Marty and Shelia Dodge. The Tennessee Baptist Convention has two major evangelistic and organizational initiatives which will be shared with the messengers this week. These are exciting days for our state convention.
4. The Women on Mission are working with Phillip Slagle and the Sunday School classes in providing Thanksgiving boxes for families over the coming weeks. This has become an annual opportunity to reach into the community and touch the lives of families in need. Last year we provided a meal to over 40 families. Collection will start Sunday, November 11, in each Sunday School class. Each class is asked to designate a person to collect the money and then get it to the church secretary. Also, if you know of families in need, share their names and addresses with either Phillip Slagle (418-7231) or Deborah at the church office (735-1929) so they can be included.
5. The Children’s Choir is working on a special Christmas musical presentation and all children are invited and asked to be at choir rehearsal on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM.
6. The Sanctuary Choir is preparing for the Christmas services on Wednesday nights at 7:30 PM. All adults and youth are invited.
