FBC Carthage E-News for February 6, 2012

FBC Carthage

February 5, 2012

Thank you for your prayers during this past week as Zeke and I had a great visit with Donny Coulter and Dr. David Sills. We traveled to Louisville with Donny and had opportunity to get to know him and hear his heart and philosophy of ministry with the First Nations people. It is exciting as we continue to see the contacts and people come together as we seek the Lord’s guidance in reaching the Inuit people in Nunavut.

It was also great having Donny preach during the morning services. He has a great heart and vision for reaching the First Nations people of Canada. It is exciting to meet and get to know the partners God is introducing to us. Here is a quote I found in the Canadian Baptist paper from Donny which helps keep a clear focus in our prayers and plans for work with First nations people groups: “The perception that ministry can only be done by the ‘outsider’ must be torn down and the biblical view of equality and Holy Spirit empowerment must be taught,” he said. “The work must not be seen as doing something for First Nations people but must be seen as doing ministry with First Nations people.”

Several have expressed interest in serving with the First Nations camp this summer. The best way to contact Donny Coulter is coulter@jrtwave.com.

Speaking of mission trips, Jim Wilburn, Pastor of North Shores Baptist Church in King’s Park, Long Island has requested a 4-6 person team to come and help them with removing several large trees around the church in May. If you can be on this team, contact me and let me know your availability.

New sermon series have begun in each of our services. This Sunday morning will begin a series in the Gospel of Luke entitled “The Shepherd’s Compassion: Jesus’ Life of Compassion.” The Sunday night series will continue on “The Foundations of the Faith.” Wednesday nights will follow the Apostle Paul’s writings in 1 Corinthians on “The Call to Unity.”

A special “Thank You” has been expressed to FBC Carthage from the Pregnancy Help Center for the largest church donation to date through the Baby Bottles offering. Several bottles were turned in last week which brought the total offering to over $1,200!

The Pregnancy Help Center will be one of the several work projects for this Saturday’s “We Love Smith County Day.” Plan to join with your Sunday School class and others from FBC Carthage as we serve our community through acts of compassion. We’ll meet in the Christian Life Center at 8:00 AM on Saturday, February 11.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
