FBC Carthage E-News for January 16, 2012

FBC Carthage E-News

January 16, 2012

Good morning,

Many of you have a holiday or are out of school today for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Across America people are remembering this minister of the gospel and his passionate stand for equal treatment of all peoples.

As I read the Bible reading for today in Genesis, I was reminded that we are all from the same family. We trace out common ancestry back to Adam and Eve, and then in Genesis 6-9 we are reminded that only Noah and his three sons and their wives were saved through the flood. Paul writes in Acts 17:26, “And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth.” John records Jesus’ words, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.”

In Revelation 5:9 we read, “And they sang a new song (to Jesus), saying: “ You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation.” We began from one couple, survived the destruction of the earth through one family, and will one day stand and praise Jesus as one people.

This would be a good day to sing the song we learned as children:
Jesus loves the little children, All the children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white, They are precious in His sight.
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

During this Year of Compassion, may we learn and practice the expression of Jesus’ love to all people. As He has loved us, we ought to also love one another.

Be compassionate to others,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1. We welcome Tim, Heather, and Hailey Wilmore to FBC Carthage as new members. They came yesterday on the promise of their church membership letter. Tim is the son of Dewayne and Carol Wilmore.

2. Yesterday, we reported the exciting news of a possible contact for our partnership in Nunavut. Donny Coulter, NAMB missionary to the First Nations peoples shared that Alec Sunrise, a strong believer in Jesus from the Northwest Territory could possibly be our contact with the Inuit. It was mistakenly reported that he was moving to Nunavut. He is planning mission trips into the area at the present time. Be praying for Alec and his connection to FBC Carthage in the months ahead. Be praying for the Inuit and for the Lord to open a door or witness into that land. For more information on the Inuit, click on the links below:

3. Speaking of the Inuit people and our partnership, North American Mission Board Missionary Donny Coulter will be with us Sunday, February 5 in the morning services. Donny is our missionary contact in Canada to the Inuit people. He will share opportunities for our church to work with him and his ministry through his First Nations Camp. After the morning services, we will have lunch together at the Walton Hotel with Donny. You are welcome to come and join us for lunch and learn more of these opportunities.

4. The Youth Winter Retreat was a great experience this weekend. The group of seventy will be traveling back today. In addition to great fun on the ski/tube slopes, the worship sessions were very powerful with many decisions being made by students and adults. Pray for the Lord to use this event as a launching pad to our greatest year of ministry to the students of Smith County.

5. This Sunday, January 22 will be our Sanctity of Life Sunday. Continue to fill your baby bottles and bring them with you this Sunday for the Smith County Pregnancy Resource Center.

6. Following the Sunday evening services on January 22, we will have a time of fellowship together in the Christian Life Center. Bring some finger-food and we will enjoy a time to sit, talk, and share together.

7. All couples are invited to the special “Date Night” Dinner on Friday, February 10 at 6:00 PM in the Christian Life Center. Child care will be provided for the evening. We are in the process of arranging for catering for the meal. The cost for the evening will be shared next week after the meal is determined.

8. Sunday School classes are asked to select a project for the “We Love Smith County” Day on Saturday, February 11. We will meet together at 8:00 AM in the Christian Life Center and go out as classes for the work. If you are not in Sunday School you are invited to come and join in one of the projects for the day.

9. Yesterday, in the message, we discussed sowing the seed of the gospel and mentioned a couple of ways to share (tracts, testimony, Four Spiritual Laws). Here is a great web site that has several online tracts and presentations of the gospel. You may want to pass one of these on to a lost or unchurched friend:
