FBC Carthage E-News for November 16, 2009

FBC Carthage E-News
November 16, 2009

Good Morning,

It’s a foggy morning here in Carthage, Tennessee as we enter a begin a new week to serve the Lord Jesus Christ. I hope you have taken time this morning to meet with the Lord in prayer and Bible study. It is an awesome opportunity to sit quietly in the presence of our Heavenly Father and realize that through faith in Jesus we have a relationship with Him that is real and personal. Never take for granted your relationship with God and His great love and care for you.

The big news and excitement for me this week is the Deer Hunter’s Breakfast on Saturday, November 21 at 3:30 AM. We are getting together prizes and gifts to give to the hunters at the breakfast. If your business has promotional items or merchandise they will donate for door prizes please contact me at 735-1929 and I will come by and pick them up, or drop them off at the church office. We also need a couple of additional people to help with the cooking. We will start around 1:30 AM. Invite your friends and co-workers to come to the breakfast. There is no charge to those who attend this community-wide outreach. A flyer is at the end of this e-news for you to print or e-mail to spread the news.

Today is the day for Jerry Wilmore’s and Jane Trainham’s cousin, Barry Wilmore, to go into space on the Space Shuttle. Liftoff is scheduled for 1:28 PM. You can watch the launch on NASA TV at
www.nasa.gov and go to NASA TV. Be praying for Barry and his family as he travels into space and for opportunities to exalt Jesus Christ and witness to his faith as he returns.

Congratulations to Billy and Judy Markham on the birth of their baby daughter, Hailey Beth Markham. Hailey Beth was born last Monday, November 9. The Markham family has been attending the 10:45 AM service.

Remember to pray for the Personnel Committee today. They will meet again soon to pray and continue seeking God’s direction and guidance for the Minister to Youth and Music position.

Yesterday in the morning services I made reference to the “5 On the Way” card and asked everyone to write down the names of five people you know who are not Christians or in church. I encourage you to make it a daily part of your prayer time to pray for these people by name. Pray for opportunities to share with them the “great things the Lord has done for you and how He has had compassion on you.” The card is designed to carry in your wallet or purse or to place it in your Bible.

Have a blessed week,

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1. All Sunday School teachers are reminded of a meeting this Wednesday night, November 18 at 7:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. We will discuss Christmas plans and opportunities to serve during the holidays.

2. This Friday, November 20 we will have the opportunity to host the third round of the playoffs as the Smith County Owls continue their journey to the State Championship! All students, grades 7-12 are invited for pizza, refreshments, volleyball, and a lot of fellowship with friends after the game in our Family Life Center. This is a great time for us to reach out to the students and build connections.

3. Sunday, November 22 will be a special day as we observe the Lord’s Supper in both morning services. This will be our Thanksgiving Service as we thank God for the great gift of the Lord Jesus Christ as He died on the cross for our sins and rose again from the dead. We practice “Open Communion” at FBC Carthage which means that all baptized believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are welcome to receive the bread and juice. This would be a great service to invite your family and friends to join you.

4. Sunday night, November 22 will be our Thanksgiving Dinner at 5:30 PM in the Family Life Center. The church will provide the turkey and dressing. Everyone is asked to bring the side dishes and deserts. This will be a great celebration of our church family as we thank God for His great blessings.

5. Many have asked about the Tennessee Baptist Convention last week in Jackson, Tennessee. It was a great series of meetings with unity and purpose but without major controversy. To read more about the TBC meeting and other news from Tennessee Baptists log onto
www.tnbaptist.org/BRNews.asp

6. Don’t forget to bring gifts for the Lighthouse Christmas Parties by Sunday, November 29. One note: Bring new gifts and do not wrap them.

7. The Christmas Parade will be Monday, November 30 and we will once again be caroling from the church steps and giving out coffee and hot chocolate. Make your plans to join us for this great community evening at FBC Carthage.
