- FBC Carthage E-News
May 11, 2009
Good Morning,
I hope everyone, especially the mothers, had a blessed Mother’s Day yesterday. The music blessed me, especially the special “If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again.” Also, a special thank you goes to Amy Broyles for coordinating the beautiful flowers for the mothers. I have included the testimonies I shared during the service at the end of this E-news. Thank you for each one who wrote a tribute to their mother.
Last night during the Evening Service we shared a special video on the amazing universe and our awesome, great, majestic God. You can click on the video and watch Created Cosmos from the You Tube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DeJF2v_eKY&videos=e1G-g-ejaHA&playnext_from=TL&playnext=1
The video is produced by Answers in Genesis and shown in their Creation Museum in Northern Kentucky.
This week is an important week in the lives of many students in Smith County. This is Graduation Week with Gordonsville High graduation on Friday, May 15 and Smith County High graduation on Saturday, May 16. Sunday, May 17 will be our opportunity to recognize our graduates and congratulate them on their accomplishment. We will have a special church-wide luncheon in honor of the graduates at 12:00 noon in the Christian Life Center. Bring a covered dish and join us in the celebration. We will recognize the High School and College graduates at the luncheon.
The Evening Service this Sunday, May 17 at 5:30 PM will also be very special as we join together with the Hispanic Mission which meets on Saturday nights in our church for a joint, bilingual service. There will be singing, sharing and preaching in English and Spanish. It will be a treat as we join with these believers for this service. Following the service we will have a soup and sandwich meal together in the Christian Life Center. The Hispanic Mission will be making a Mexican soup called Pausouli and we will be bringing the sandwiches. This will be a great time to fellowship and get to know the members of the Mission.
Be praying with Anthony and Chandelle Hackett this week as they anticipate the birth of their baby.
Have a blessed week and remember to pray for the graduates and their families.
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. We need your help. On Sunday mornings, parking is becoming a challenge, especially for visitors and guests who come for the 10:45 AM service. I would like to encourage several of our young drivers (50 and below) to park across Main Street in our church parking lot. If you have wife and children drop them off first and then park. This will open a few more parking spots on the church side for guests and visitors. We hope to have designated parking for guests near the building soon. Thanks for your help on this issue.
2. All youth and adults are encouraged to check out the ReFuel information and make your plans to be a part of this exciting week, June 10-13.

6. Thank you to those submitting tributes and testimonies to their mothers for the Mother’s Day Service. Listed below are those tributes:
My mother was a blessing to me each and every day. She has been gone almost 5 years and I can still hear her voice every single day. She loved to be with her Christian brothers and sisters at First Baptist Church. She wanted to be here every time the doors were open. She loved to play the organ and piano. She taught all four of us to serve the Lord. Mother taught us to trust in the Lord in all things. Her favorite verse was "All things work together for good to those that LOVE the Lord, and are called according to His purpose" - Romans 8:28. Mother loved her family and her church family. Her hobby was communication - talking on the phone, visiting people, writing cards, and letters. She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, and mind. She was a perfect Mother for the four of us.
Janet Bailey
Our mother is a blessing to us because of the amazing person she is. She is someone who we always count on and know that she will always be there for us, through our small adventures and our big adventures. We could not have gotten through those times without her. We appreciate our mother and everything that she does for us. She sacrifices all she has for her children and we are grateful. We love you, Mom, more then you will ever know !!!!Allie, Logan and Spencer Hackett
My mother was a blessing to me because (1) she took me to church before I was ever born (in our house the only excuse allowed to miss church was you are either in the hospital or in heaven); (2) she taught me about Jesus’ love and saving grace; (3) she taught me to put God 1st in everything in my life (because if you do, the rest of your life will take care of itself). I realize this sounds cliché’, but the words from Proverbs 31 describes my mom in every letter.
Jerry Wilmore
My mother is always there for me when I need her. If I call and need her she drops everything and comes to me. She always has an ear to listen and may not have an answer to give. She is not afraid to admit that she made some mistakes along the way. She had two girls to raise and a job to hold. She made sure we were in church. She tells us to pray about any problems we are having in our lives; not to worry, just pray. To me she has been a great role model and very good Christian mother who loves her children very much.
Milicent Winfree
She is and always has been a Christian woman. And at age 89 still give me advise, she just doesn't use the switch anymore.
Jimmy Key
My mother is a blessing to me for her unconditional love.
Lisa Anderson
My mother is/was a blessing to me… because outside of Jesus, she has been the biggest grace giver and unconditional lover of my brief life.
Tyler Hodge
My mother is a blessing to me because I know she will be there when I need her.
Katie Goolsby
My mother is a blessing to me everyday because she is a giver and not a taker in life. She has shown me by example how to be unselfish. She constantly is doing for other people and thinking of everyone else’s needs but her own. I only hope I can learn to be as giving and wise as my mother. Our family has truly been blessed.
Jan Trainham
My mother was a blessing to me because she took me, my brother and sister to church. I have been in church all of my life and was saved when I was 13 years old. Mother not only made sure we went to church, she lived it everyday and taught us the right way to live. Mother was a good, loving, Christian lady all the way.
