FBC Carthage E-News for April 13, 2009

First Baptist Carthage E-News
April 13, 2009

Good Morning,

This has been a wonderful week at FBC Carthage. The week of revival services with Jimmy Napier was a blessing. The attendance was very good each night and I appreciate all the calls and invitations that were given to friends and family to attend. I must comment on the Ladies class taught by Samantha Upchurch. They have eleven on the role and on Sunday School night they had fourteen in attendance for the revival. Thanks ladies for the extra effort. I also must mention the youth and the great effort they gave every night in bringing friends.

There are several we welcome into the fellowship at First Baptist through their decisions during the revival services and Easter week:
Pat and Kristi Nixon by letter
Matthew Lynn by baptism
Neal and Brenda Langford by letter
Seth Agee by baptism
Jennifer Agee by statement of faith

Easter Sunday was a fantastic day of celebration. The choir and musicians led us in worship through the special music. It was a blessing from beginning to end. We had around 85 in attendance at the 8:00 AM service and around 140-150 in attendance at the 10:45 AM service. The 5:30 PM Lord’s Supper was also a special time of worship as we remembered the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. I don’t remember observing the Lord’s Supper on Easter before. A special thanks to Cindy Dowell for playing the harp for service.

Invite a friend to join you this Sunday, April 19 as we examine the evidence of the resurrection and the importance this one event plays in our salvation. We will also be having baptism in the 10:45 AM service.

Have a blessed week as you live with the peace, hope, joy, and purpose as a believer in the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ.

Bro. Tim

Here is the news for the week:
1. Wednesday night, April 15 will be our monthly business meeting at 6:30 PM in the Christian Life Center. We will hear several reports and a recommendation from the deacons.

2. Continue to pray for the work of the Personnel Committee as they receive resumes for the Minister to Youth and Music position. The committee meets this Wednesday, April 15 at 5:30 PM.

3. Speaking of April 15, remember what is due on April 15 and as you pay your taxes take an extra moment to pray for our nation. Pray for the President, Congress, Governor, Legislators, and our local officials. When asked about paying taxes to the pagan, corrupt government of Rome, here is what Jesus said to His disciples in Matthew 22:15-22:
15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk. 16 And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men. 17 Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? 19 Show Me the tax money.” So they brought Him a denarius. 20 And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” 21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 22 When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.

4. All persons considering the Mission Trip to New York on June 28-July 6 or the Mission trip to Montana on July 14-22 are urged to attend a planning meeting this Sunday, April 19 at 4:30 PM in the Sanctuary. We will be finalizing travel plans and discussing the work of both trips.

5. Two up-coming youth events next weekend:

Sign-up in the Youth room for this Lock-In with youth from area churches.

There is no cost to the students for this activity. The Lock-In begins at 10:00 PM
and concludes at 5:00 AM. We will leave from FBC Carthage at 9:30 PM on
Friday, April 24. Parents and chaperones are welcome and needed. Contact the
church office or see Stephen Russell.
· Saturday, April 25 is our next Youth Connect at 6:00 PM.
