FBC Carthage E-News
February 23, 2009
Good Morning,
With only one week left in the month of February, I remind you of the emphasis “We Have a Heart for You.” This month I have encouraged you to look for opportunities to do an act of kindness to others. This would be a great week to make a visit to a shut-in, to take a meal to a neighbor or to help a friend with a project. While you are doing these acts of kindness, remember to share the good news of God’s love to us in Jesus Christ. We do good works, not because we are good, but because we are believers in the One who is truly good, Jesus Christ. The verse to remember while doing your acts of kindness is Matthew 5:16 where Jesus says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Last week I had the opportunity to drive to Jackson, Tennessee and spend some time with my oldest daughter, Jill at Union University. It was good to see Jill and I was very impressed with the new buildings on the campus. You will remember that just a year ago a majority of Union’s buildings were destroyed by a tornado. Within these past twelve months the dorms have been completely rebuilt and the damaged classroom buildings have been repaired. I thank the Lord for His protection of the students and faculty at Union during that storm. For more information and pictures of the destruction and rebuilding you can go to http://www.uu.edu/tornado/.
This Sunday we will finish up the message “Perfection in Jesus.” We saw yesterday that God’s righteous demand is absolute perfection. In Matthew 5, Jesus gives six examples of perfection in our emotions, passions, commitments, truthfulness, revenge and love. As we shared in the message, that type of perfection is absolutely impossible to achieve. The Bible says we have all sinned and all stand condemned by the sins we have committed. The good news is that Jesus did live a perfect life. He never sinned in any way or at any time. His death as a perfect sacrifice paid the sin debt for every person. Through faith in Him we will receive forgiveness, pardon and new life. Then and only then can we live in right relationship with God. The final point to this message is that perfection is expected of the believer. The goal of our life is to be like Jesus Christ and to imitate Him. We will also look at what we are to do as believers when we fail to live as Jesus would. Join us Sunday as we complete this message and exalt Jesus Christ as the Savior and Lord of our lives.
Have a great week and I will see you Sunday.
Bro. Tim
