FBC Carthage E-News
April 30, 2018
Good Spring Morning,
This is a beautiful time
of year in Tennessee as the trees are leafing out, grass growing, and the
flowers blooming. Take a few moments
throughout these days to appreciate the wonder and beauty of the world around
us. Thank the Lord for His amazing
design and creation. As the old saying
goes. “Stop and smell the roses.”
It is also graduation time
as colleges and universities hold their commencement events in the next few
days and our local high school graduations on May 18 & 19. In recognition of our graduates, FBC Carthage
will be recognizing them on Sunday, May 6 in the 10:45 AM service followed by a
church-wide covered dish luncheon in their honor. Everyone is asked to bring a dish and plan to
be a part of this celebration in the Christian Life Center This is always a special day as we pray for
the graduates, celebrate their achievements, and wish them well in their
further education and careers. We would
not want to leave any of our high school or college graduates out, so please
look over the list below and let me know if there are others to be recognized
on May 6. If so, send their names to tfrank@fbccarthage.com. Here is a

The FBC Carthage Summer 2018
T-Shirts are in and you can pick up one in the Connection Point. Wear these shirts on mission projects, VBS,
picnics, and as a general publicity for the church. The theme for this year is “Game On!” God has
equipped Christians with everything we need for the game of life. It’s time to get in the game, give it our
all, and do our best to serve and share Christ with those around us. The focal passage is 2 Peter 1:3 which says, “His
divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and
godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.” The motto is “Gearing up for life’s big game.” May this be our greatest Summer ever as we
serve and share Jesus. It’s “Game On!”
Last night was the
final session of AWANA for this school year.
A special “Thank You” to all those who have served faithfully in AWANA
this past year. Enjoy the special
services during the Summer on Sunday nights and we will look forward to a great
next year beginning in August.
This Sunday night,
May 6 will begin our special Summer Sunday Night services. This week we will explore
the subject of aliens and watch portions of the new Christian documentary, “Alien
Intrusion.” This is a fascinating
subject as we study and understand the truths from a biblical perspective.
On Wednesday nights
in May at 6:30 PM we will be studying the scripture lessons from this Summer’s
Vacation Bible School. I always enjoy
walking through these passages the teachers will be teaching the children and
youth. In addition to studying the
scriptures, this helps the teachers have a “head-start” in their lesson
preparation. Join us this week as we
study together.
Here are the mission plans
for the Summer and the dates are coming very quickly. Be a part of our mission efforts this Summer
through your prayers and your participation:

Here is the news for the
week:
·
Thursday, May 3 is the National Day of Prayer and a Prayer Rally will be
held on the steps of the Old Courthouse at 5:30 PM. Several local pastors will be leading in
specific prayers for our nation. Let’s
join together and pray for our country this Thursday on the National Day of
Prayer.
·
The church council will meet on Sunday, May 6 at 4:30 and the deacons at
7:00 PM.
·
In preparation for the One Day Revival, June 3 and Vacation Bible School
the following week, June 11-15, we will have a month of outreach to our
community on Tuesday afternoons in May.
Each Tuesday in May, from 5:30-7:00 PM, we will go out and distribute invitations
to our neighbors and friends. Join us
for this “visitation blitz” as we invite people to these two special events.
·
The Women on Mission group will meet next Monday, May 7 at 6:30 PM in the
Christian Life Center. All ladies are
invited to attend.
·
The Young at Heart are planning a special trip on May 8 to visit the
Opryland Hotel and receive a special tour of the gardens. We will leave from the church parking lot at
10:00 AM and have lunch before the tour.
This would be a good trip to invite someone to join you.
·
Sunday, May 13 is Mother’s Day and we are planning on having a Baby
Dedication as part of the morning service.
If you would like to have your baby dedicated in this service see Audrey
Russell or contact the church office at (615) 735-1929.
·
Mission team members are needed for the Mission Trip to Atlanta, May
25-26. We will be serving with Kewon Foster
and his church as they reach out to several housing complexes in their area
with an Ice Cream party. As we serve ice
cream to the people and have games with the children, we will also be sharing
the love and Jesus and helping the church build relationships. This two day mission trip will be a fun way
to serve with one of our mission partners in the city of Atlanta. The cost will be $25 to cover the lodging for
one night. See Bro. Tim or Bro. Matt for
more information.
·
Homes and yards
are needed for Backyard Bible Clubs all around Smith County. This year we are asking for people to host a
Backyard Bible Club for your neighborhood children. These clubs may be 4-8 weeks long and we will
have Bible stories, craft ideas, and other information for you. If you are willing to reach out in your
neighborhood contact Bro. Tim or Bro. Matt.
·
A One-Day Revival
will be held on Sunday, June 3 with Evangelist Phil Glisson. He will be in both the morning and evening
services. As part of this special day we
are asking everyone to invite at least one person as your guest. The emphasis is called “Invite Your
One.” Be thinking of someone you can
invite for this special day.
·
Plans are being
made and sign-ups taken for Youth Camp in Orange Beach, Alabama, June
18-22. Be a part of the excitement. See Bro. Matt for more information.
