Jambo from Kenya

Jambo!  Greetings from Nairobi, Kenya!

We have made it safely to Kenya and have had a great first two days of orientation and seeing the city.  Today we went into the Hamara slum which had about 3000 people living in 2-3 acres.  It was a desperate place with a lot of needs.  Ridgeways has a Ministry Intern who has begun a Bible study in this slum and is making plans toward a church.  The main issue seemed to be alcohol addiction.  Just as we have seen this problem on the reservation in Montana, alcohol has destroyed the lives of many people within this slum.  In fact, alcohol has made the slum a virtual prison for many of the people who live here.  There are active stills where the people are brewing the alcohol.  There is a sense of hopelessness and when one of the intoxicated men asked me what I could do to help him (He had in mind giving food or money) I could not think of one thing I could do to help.  But, I knew that Jesus could do the impossible.  In fact, our Lord Jesus Christ came to set the prisoners free!  The young man who is serving as the Ministry Intern shared that already four of the six alcohol stills have been closed.  God is at work in this place.  There is little I can do but the Lord I serve can do great and mighty things that we can not even imagine.

Please continue to pray for the Kenya Team.  We will be going to Malindi to minister on Wednesday  through next Monday.  To see several pictures from the team, click on our Africa page on Facebook:
